I'm finally GUTTING the horrible stereo system from my car. Probably in 2 weeks. I'm getting this double din pioneer head unit. It's touch screen. iPod support, navigation, bluetooth & allows for a backup camera. It's really slick. The head unit is like a grand. I know it's expensive but It seems I can do everything I want with this unit.

I want things to look clean, and I was going to get the navpod, but if this does it all, I think it will look more factory just having the one screen there in the center of the console.

The next thing I was going to do was get the stage 2 audiophile system w/ all the diamond audio components. I was going to upgrade the 6.5 D6 door speakers to the HEX speakers. They have a little more power. I bought one of zetoolman's last boxes with the 10' sub in it. I'm having that put in, and I also heard for whatever reason that I should have a 5 or 6 channel amp installed instead of the 4 channel that comes with the system. Still needing to talk to that guy and ask him exactly why.

Any suggestions before I do this?

I have this deck, I have been very pleased with everything except the bluetooth, when I purchased the only module offered was the BT100; they have a new version out now, but I think it is equally as bad. It would not connect with 6 different mobile phones, so each time the car is started I have to manually connect, then it does not retrieve my phonebook... It is primarily a remote mic/speaker, with all calling features still on the phone, and a 30 second setup requirement to manually connect.

If pioneer made a bluetooth module that would auto connect to my iphone the entire setup would be fantastic.

fwiw, I think this deck can be had closer to $800, now that it is a few months old. I purchased mine 2 weeks before it was released, due to an error on crutchfield's website - also purchased with it were the XM, navtraffic, and bluetooth modules.

4-channel amp could be fine if you bridge two channels for the sub. A 5-channel amp is slick if it provides a strong mono (sub) channel and four channels for mids and highs. However, you would need to have separate filter (cross over) for each mid and tweeter. If you are running the amp from the trunk, that means 5 sets of wires for the speakers (2 for mids, 2 for highs and 1 for sub).

The 5-channel system is what I did. It allows more specific balance from mids to highs but I wouldn't claim it's is all that necessary. I suspect a good clean 3-channel system and EQ will do a great job.

A 6-channel amp might be used by bridging 2 channels for the sub, then leaving 4 channels for mids and highs (basically - a 5-ch system).

Good luck with the install.

too bad you didn't check into kenwood dnx7100. it's bluetooth works flawlessly, as does ipod interface and it has a usb for flash memory and reverse tilt.

I got that thing installed and it works great. I have no experience with the blue tooth so I can't comment on that.

The one thing I find a little annoying is that you have to keep the navigation dvd in there. It has some built in memory but once you move past the saved area without the dvd, you will need to insert the dvd to move the map some more. Not really a problem because I use the ipod extensively for music, but I know this is a big no no but if travelling for long distances so on the hwy and you have a passenger. He/she may want to watch a dvd while the driver in trying to find roads and turnoffs on unfamilar hwys.

Another thing I noticed was that I cannot play videos directly from my ipod nano video. I get sound but no picture.

Not Pioneer, but the new Kenwood units are using a Garmin based Nav. GNA-510 I believe is the model number of the nav unit, but its built in in the DNX7100 double din unit.

+1, already have the D3 in my room, just waiting for my CF center console....:frown:

Correct--with the Pioneer AVIC-D3, you cannot play a cd/dvd in the slot while browsing the map. But if you have a route guidance already set during the trip, then you can take out the map disc and play something else as it will keep the route in memory. You should check out the avic411 forums if you want to know all of the pioneers' capabilities. But this is one reason I'd rather go with the Kenwood because in previous systems, my preference is to have the map on while playing cds most of the time. If its not a concern, then otherwise the d3 is a pretty good unit.
