First weekend w/ new car

After a whole weekend with the car (not much time…) – thought I’d offer my thoughts.

A big thanks, again, to porsche37 who pointed me to the dealer where I got the car.

First – I highly doubt I’m the target market the Honda execs were thinking of. I’m not independently wealthy and have never owned a Ferrari, Lambo or even an Audi, but I’ve been a fan of Honda for 25+ years. I’ve never spent $50k on a car….much less six figures.

Driving: This thing is a blast. It’s a 3-in1 car as you switch through the different driving modes. You don’t get much tamer/Accord-like than in the ‘Quiet’ mode and Sport + and Track release the inner beast 100%. Whether you want to disappear at a stop light or bring obnoxious attention to yourself is completely under your control w/ a flick of the big switch in the middle. I have NOT tried launch mode yet…. To say this thing is quick is an understatement – giving it gas in the right mode yields immediate gratification and a huge smile. The only comparable car I’ve driven was a C7 Z06 – whose speed somewhat scared me. The NSX gave me (eerily unearned) confidence it was going to listen to me from planting the rear end to managing twisties. On a spectrum b/t the S2000 (AP1) and NA1, the NC1 is amazing in that it has the go-kart tossability of the AP1 and the GT road-trip worthiness of the NA1. I love this thing (but won’t be getting rid of the NA1 or S2K anytime soon…).

Washing: Yes, I have a washing section. I wash my cars b/c it’s relaxing and no one else will do it as well. This thing has WAY more creases, crevices, corners and subtle shapes than anything I’ve touched. That almost undetectable indent on top….There’s almost sharp corners underneath the back hatch where glass meets metal – snagged the rags. Not a deal breaker…Lots of soap gets into the truck area (just the drain area – not carpeting). Again…not a deal breaker.
Complaints: Apple carplay was a complete train wreck. Music was skipping, response on the screen was slow, etc… so I gave it a 5-minute effort and gave up b/c I’d rather hear the engine. I’ll give it another shot when I have more patience. Maybe it was my phone, the cord, etc…

If you’re on the fence…I don’t see any reason not to take advantage of the current opportunities and have fun with this thing. I’m looking for local track memberships, now.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and congratulations. Your garage makes me wish I'd kept the S2000 and I am looking to get a 4-post lift.

I found that a certified lightning cable is necessary for Apple Carplay to work reasonably well on both my Hondas (NSX and Civic). Even then, the infotainment system on both are the weakest elements of the cars.

Beautiful....

Congratulations

Love your garage

I had an 00 S2K from 99 to 05

Regarding car play, sometimes just turning the radio off and then off fixes the issue

The streaming in the car is great some days and an issue on other days

I asked the NSX Specialist about it and they don't seem to be working on a fix

Right now, all Hondas and Acuras that use the DA (what the NSX has) or ODMD infotainment systems are having all kinds of issues with iPhones. It happened when Apple pushed out iOS11. Doesn’t matter whether you’re on CarPlay or Handsfreelink.

Nothing we can do on our end. It’s an Apple thing. Hopefully they patch it soon.

I have CarPlay in my TLX. Smoothest operation is with a genuine Apple cord. I have a super short non Apple cable and occasionally, I get a "cannot connect" error. With a genuine Apple cable, I never get that. Just FWIW and IMHO with M2¢.

Never spent $50k on a car and just got a NSX. Can someone say repo! Lol! Jk! You are a boss my man. I think it is great that you got the car and get to enjoy such a great piece of engineering. The NSX will surely put a smile on your face every time you get in it. Congrats!

it happens with android too. i wasn't using the the oem cable, but i thought it was a quality cable. :(

Appreciate all the nice comments! Took a morning drive today….because I could.

To answer a couple questions:

Garage ceiling is 9’6” – the Liftmaster 8500 opener freed up lots of space above the lift and I had the garage door track raised, also. Lots of room w/ two low cars…

Will post the carwash.

Appreciate the insight on carplay issues, Master, neuron and bricks!

Just noticed I have the first year of each Honda…

My questions (I’ve read the owners manual AND 2017 media information):

Is there a physical key? My car was shipped from FL to TX and I don’t see one…Why is there a hole in the door, then?

What does the sliding thing on the key fob do?

Anyone hard-wired a Valentine One yet?

Thanks for the TSB clarification Master. Seems like it could still be related to intermittent issues, but perhaps not.

That Liftmaster 8500 and raising the tracks could be just the ticket for me. I have 9' ceiling, but the opener/door are a problem for me. I didn't see that yours was raised in your pic. Thanks for the tip.

Question on your Apple Play issue... How often do you shut down your I Phone ? On my Lexus I get similar issues with my Bluetooth functions when I do not shut my phone down at least 2-3 times a week. I only shut it down for about a minute. When I do not shut the phone down for a few weeks I will start to experience interface issues.

By the way thank you for your review. I have been on the fence with the new NSX for a while.

Thanks, Brandon - will try shutting down and also taking neuron and others suggestions to use oem cord (using an Amazon special...)

Glad your enjoying the car just got the rattles and wind noise completely taken care of on mine and now its as quiet as a Cadillac almost. I absolutely love this car even with the minor issues worth it.
