Have any of you guys who converted to '02 done a cost comparison between restoring to original or replacing with '02 (I'm sure mine is not the first to get front ended).

Did you change hoods (vented hood) at the same time?

The cars is (obviouisly) going to need body and paint...but I'd like a recommendation of one of the better fit/finish hoods, to look good and minimize additional $s

I believe the highest regarded aftermarket type r hood is the downforce one. Should have the best figment from what I've read. Seibon and BYD have their cf/Frp type r hoods but from what I've read do not fit nearly as well.

If going for just an oem 02 hood look, the only aftermarket alternative that I can think of is the seibon oem 02+ styled cf hood. Perhaps someone on prime who has his hood can comment on fitment.

Hope this helps.

I got a Downforce Type R hood for my '02 and I really like the way that it looks and fits. Some of the other Type R hoods have scoops that are slightly different/not as big of a scoop as a true Type R replica, so you may want to take that into consideration when you're choosing a Type R hood. I would personally recommend Downforce.
