How can I know that my Vtec come or not?

I know vtec in NSX is smooth.

But I think mine is too smooth and sound is not change @ 5800 RPM.

This video is my NSX 92@first gear with GTLW, coustom header and cats.

Thank you.

Give us a better video. Maybe a 3rd gear run where its a lil slower in the revs so we can notice a change. and a few more passes.

Hi there

Cannot play the clip at work unfortunately.
However, if you are driving and accelerating, you should be able to hear the VTEC-relais clicking behind your head around 5800 RPM.
Even with my AIS and loud Taitec GTLW exhaust, I can still hear the VTEC relais-CLICK when it engages. The sound of my engine however, does not change in any dramatic way. It just keeps on screaming.

It is a very distinctive 'CLICK' you can hear which. Also, you will NOT hear this click if you are just revving your engine while standing still with no gears engaged because VTEC will NOT activate if the engine is either not fully warmed up yet or if there is no engine load.

I'll take the new clip for you guys, and I'll notice the oil pressure drop when 5800 RPM.Anyway, my engine sound isn't change at all.

the click behind you is the fuel pressure switch boosting the fuel pressure up.
Has nothing to do with VTEC imo.
Do a few runs and watch your oil pressure.
better yet, take some better video with a view of the speedo, tach and oil pressure gauge.
Your oil pressure should drop in vtec, cause oil pressure is being directed to the vtec mechanism......

Hard to tell from the video. On my car I do notice slight difference in extra power over 5800, not like an Integra GSR but just enough to know.

I hear the click @4000 RPM.

I think that is fuel pressure switch but it make extra power than @5800 RPM.

I'll fine camera that can speedo, tach and oil pressure gauge for new video.

Thank you so much.

OK, IMO, I heard it when you was in second gear. I couldn't be sure in any of the other gears but I'm pretty sure I heard it in second.

and I have never heard any clicking from the relays in my car and I know V-tec is working.

Thank Greg Z.

Glad to hear that.

I heard clicking sound only @4000 RPM.

Clicking is normal, fuel or speed sensor if I am not mistaken.

Good news is your car is going all the way to 8K, I do not however notice any change at 5800 possible spool valve, LarryB or Ron can best advise more on this.

Doesn't sound like it is coming on. The noticably higher pitch during transition to vtec just doesn't seem to be there. Do you still have the stock air box and "tuned" intake pipe upstream from the airbox? If so, remove the intake pipe (which was originally designed to "reduce boom and roar") from inside the fender well and you will hear the intake better. Perhaps in that scenario, the vtec transition will be more audible.

It is not working..even though it revs out fine...which causes some confusion.

This happened to mine once.

Here's what my invoice said...(scanner not working)

61782 DTC 22 Faulty Front V-tec Pressure Switch (front bank) Replace front V-tec Solenoid..Reset PCM

1) 37250-PR3-003 Switch Assembly 68.69

worked fine after.

it sounds like its working to me, i hear the noise change right at 5800 rpm.

take a video of your dash cluster including the RPM and oil pressure gauge.

when the oil pressure drops, vtech is engaged regardless of the "noise"

since the nsx is the granddaddy, the vtec engagement was not a marketing gimmick but rather a true technological innovation.

in current production Hondas and acuras. HP and TQ is actually dropped before Vtec kicks so that it seems like vtec system has more of an effect.

you can see it in the RSX, TSX, TL... just about anything else with vtec on the market.

happy motoring

Happened to me after I did a top end rebuild, that's how I found out. My check engine light came on ONLY after I stayed in the vtec range for more than a 4-5 seconds.
