Gas Mileage

I was just wondering what kind of mileage you guys get on a 91'. I have only driven 75 miles and I am on half a tank! How many miles do you guys usually on average out of one full tank? Including some spirited driving at times.

Thank You I know the question is vague.

The tank holds 18.2 gallons. I generally get around 24 mpg around town, and 27-28 mpg on a long trip. I've gotten over 450 miles on a tank.

The fuel gauge is generally pretty accurate, too.

Stock 2000, not a particularly aggressive driver usually, average about 220 miles / full tank (until fuel light comes on).

I get around 21 mpg and about 270-300 miles on a tank. My average fill up is between 13-14 gallons.

Never get more than 17-18 mpg....240ish on a full tank. Non-aggressive driver. 450 is utterly ridiculous and a mathematical impossibility even at 24 mpg...

On average, I fill up at 240 miles with 12 gallons. That's mixed driving, some 'spirited', some freeway cruising. On longer, slower drives, under 70 mph ( ex. Ft Lauderdale to Key West ), I have averaged 30 mpg. This makes 450 miles on an 18.5 gallon tank well within the realm of possibility.

Cruising on the Interstate in my '91 with I/H/E I regularly got mid-to-upper 20's. On long trips I comfortably got 400+ miles to a tank most of the time. By "comfortably" I mean I would refill right around the empty mark on the gauge but before the "low fuel" light came on.

During "spirited driving" on back roads I got upper teens.

After filling up with 18.5 gal of chevron gas, I brough along a 5-gal can of gas (just in case) and decided to empty the tank on mixture of 20% spirited and 80% highway (mostly on 5th). The tank last 418 miles. My NSX is a 94 with 58K miles.

My average after putting 6,500 miles on my 2000 NSX-T works out to around 16.5 mpg! Most of my miles do come from my 4.5 mile commute to and from work (rush hour on surface streets...obviously a worse case scenario for NSX mileage).

My worst tank was around 13 mpg (I suppose I rode-the-redline at a few too many green lights).

I've averaged as high as 24mpg on a single tank, but tend to average around 20mpg when I go on lengthy "spirited" drives.

Sounds like we 2000 NSXers get a lot less mileage than the early model NSXers.

My car is almost totally stock. On a long trip, no intermediate stops on a tankful, I did indeed put 453 miles on a tank (the last 25 or so with the warning light on), then filled with 16.2 gallons. This is reality at 28 mpg.

You're getting less than 14 mpg. That's much worse than I've heard for normal street (highway with some local) driving. It wouldn't surprise me if either (a) there's something wrong with your car, or perhaps (b) you might actually be getting better mileage than that but you're not really keeping accurate records...? (No offense, it's just that your mileage seems way out of line.)

Hmm - thanks nsxtasy, did not realize ~14mpg was unusual, I've been kind of used to that range for many years. Happen to be going to the dealer tomorrow, I'll bring it up.

Now, I don't get to even touch the highway since I moved the office, so these are all city miles although I'm never stuck in traffic either.

I stop fueling at the first click (no top-off) and don't refuel until shortly after the light comes on. Have the habit of resetting the odo every time I refuel, so doubt my records are too off.

Matter of fact, the 220 estimate is on the high side...

Forgot to mention that I did get > 360 miles off a single tank during a recent out of town trip, cruise control at just 80 for the bulk of the trip (slightly over 3k RPM on 6th).

I'm not too surprised about the 14 mpg figure because I have gotten lower when all miles came from my commute. If I pay close attention to how I drive, I can keep the mileage above 16 during my commute...I just have to shift around 3000rpm. But if you feel that this is irregular, maybe I should bring this up during my 7,500 mile service (still a month or two away).

The EPA mileage on the '97 and later NSXs is listed as 17mpg city / 24mpg hwy. What are the estimates for earlier models? (I couldn't find this in the FAQ)

I get 23 mpg on a combination of 30/70 city/hwy with some spirited fast driving with every fill up - if you are getting 14 mpg it could be due to a lot of stop and go in traffic - JMO.

That's true.

Also some folks may get lower mileage if they've got the short gears and/or aftermarket R&P (but RQuintero's is stock).

Just for my $.02, my fuel light usually flips on at about 325-350 miles with a lot of mixed driving. So roughly in the 21-25 MPG range or so.

On a trip from Chicago to Seattle, I averaged 31.5 mpg at highway speeds in one fuel cycle. For some reason, it dropped down to 12 mpg through Montana (this was back when speed limits = reasonable and prudent. They were vague with speed limits, so I was liberal with my interpretation.)

Got 27mpg (calculated from 1 gallon = 4 liters) on a trip from Rotterdam to Paris.
But that's with USD 4,50 a gallon..........
