Most driving guidelines — including those now issued by AAA and most state transportation agencies — now say you should lightly grip the wheel at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions.

The American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association, the trade group for driving instructors, gives this advice:
- Both hands should be placed outside of the steering wheel on opposite sides.
- Your grip should be firm, yet gentle.
- Use your fingers instead of the palms of your hands and keep your thumbs up along the face of the steering wheel.
- Never turn the wheel while gripping it from the inside of its rim.

If I remember this correctly, this has more to do with avoiding injury due to air bag deployment rather than being the most effecting driving stance.

Where's the poll option for one finger looped on the bottom spoke like I drive?

What about 4 and 8? That's where I keep my hands. Mostly for the airbag issue, but also works with the push / pull method. I'm not driving my dad's 1966 Chevrolet with 44" diameter wheel, so 4 and 8 with either of my Acura's gives me plenty of control.

Now they should inform people how they should be sitting. I see some fools practically laying down while driving. And these same fools usually have 1 limp wrist on the wheel as well. Well of course they do because they need the other hand free to text.

And while AAA and other state agencies are at it why not advise about not camping out in the left lane.

They are setting the stage now for where to place the "flappers" once the gearshift becomes a thing of the past.

WHAT!?!! We aren't suppose to drive with our knees?!? This is absurd!! How are we suppose to eat and drink while we drive?

Wait, I thought right before you crash, you're supposed to raise your hands up like a roller coaster ride, all scared and such, so you don't have the airbag smack your hands into your face??
