Have anyone remove radio antenna?
I plan to paint my NSX.
I don't like to see the antenna at rear fender.
I plan to remove it out and fill a hole.
Do you have any suggestion?

Thank, Veleno
I forget about aluminum body.
I just used to fill a hole with metal body.

I removed my antenna and stuck in a short aluminum one from ECS tuning. It sticks about two inches out of the car. Looks great - radio reception is poor.

Hi Tum,
I disconnected the antenna cable so it doesn't go up when I listen to the radio -- in the city, the reception is fine but when you are further out from the city, the reception isn't that great. I don't want to replace it with any other antenna because I like the smoothness look of the NSX.

If you listen to the radio a lot then I would suggest you to get a shorter antenna such as Shark antenna(pretty popular). Hope this help!

Thank you for another choice.
may be internal antenna can help.

Hi,Eddy
I disconnected the antenna cable also and I used internal antenna.
I perfer to use oem antenna than Shark antenna.

I believe several people have removed their antenna and plugged the hole with a rubber plug. If I remember correctly, there was a rubber plug used for the Honda Accord that fit the hole in the NSX very nicely.
There are other options as well, because without the antenna radio reception will be pretty bad. Most people use a short antenna like that on the S2000.

The best way would be of course to have a good body shop fill out the hole, but it's all aluminum and very think also.

Eddy, I put a switch on the antenna that allows me to leave it down in the city or raise it when reception is bad.
Might be just what you need.

See Ruined 2's posts here. Switch

I got the Shark Attack antenna and it works great. It is flexible rubber and is about 10-12" long. Very discreet.

That's the one I use. Reception seems to be about the same as the silver monster. (it's 9" btw)

The previous owner did the widebody and didn't install an antenna period. My installer put in an antenna "bar" that sticks to the glass behind the seats. You can't tell it's there from the outside really since it runs vertically/parallel to the window trim. It's about the size of a small Snicker's candy bar. Reception is good but not excellent...have no idea who makes it though. Next setup will be iPod anyway...I use the disc changer now.

Hmm... I just installed mine and the reception is very poor (even with the red power line connected to boost the signal)...

I haven't installed one of these but everyone only mentions the power wire. If there is no ground wire then the antenna attachment point is the ground. Aluminum is not the best conductor so your problem may be a poor ground. If you don't have a good ground, you will have a unamplified- amplified antenna.

Their was no ground wire with the antenna, just the thick radio signal wire, and the red power wire. The red wire DID make a difference and helped to amplify the antenna, but it's still extremely poor and static-y.

Has anyone made a custom ground wire for this antenna? -how would you recommend doing this?

First i would try a alligator clip test lead to see if it changes. Connect it to the underside of the shaft if you can and run it to a good known ground. If it improves you can solder a wire to the shaft. To solder something like that you will need a silver solder Hobby solder kit. The kit is just solder and flux.

Have you checked the connector to your rear window antenna? They have been known to come loose.

I have this antenna on my car and now use them on every other vehicle I own. I get GREAT reception with them, and purchase them directly through LOCUSTOM on ebay for around $42 shipped. IMO its a great deal, and great replacement. Makes a huge difference in looks and takes about 20-25 minutes to install

I got mine from LOCUSTOM as well... Terrible reception and no AM channels (can barely make them out)...

Which connector is that and what does it do?

The connectors for the defrost/antenna are at the top of your rear glass, under the plastic garnish cover. Sometimes when the hatch is opened, it can stretch the wires and loosen the connectors.

I think I also read someone else's post where they complained of bad AM reception with a Shark II, and it turned out to be no power to the antenna. You might want to check that hotwire with a tester.

Hmm, i'll go downstairs and look for that connector. I have a '92 -if that makes a difference.

I'll double check the power wire, but when I installed it, I was getting poor reception, and then it was much better once I connected the red power line -but still extremely fuzzy/poor reception overall -but better. I'll test it...

Dude you listen to AM..LOL

I got a used one from a fellow primer and get decent reception. Much better than the phallic symbol that Honda sent the car out with.
