As you all may know, NSXTASY has had a catastrophic engine failure in his NSX stemming from a harmonic balancer failure...I personally think this is ridiculous for an OEM manufacturer like HONDA to create such an inferior part with such devastating consequences...but I know from personal experience that track driving has its own inherent risks and such failures can not always be predicted...therefore...

I want to help NSXTASY in his quest to fix his NSX engine, particularly from a "fluke" incident like a harmonic balancer...He has helped more than enough times in this forum and at NSXPO events...he is a SIGNIFICANT contributor to the NSX community...I have personally met Ken Sax and know that he is a genuine man who deserves our community help...

I am starting a fund of $500 dollars...

I can only ask others in the community...but I feel strongly about this issue...please PM if you are willing to help...

thanks

I appreciate the gesture. Really, I do! But I will take care of this myself.

I have already located a very nice used engine in Phoenix, which will be shipped to my dealer on Monday. Ross (NSXprime member viewfromtheback) has been extremely accommodating in selling this engine to me. In fact, we agreed on this entirely in one phone conversation, with a lot of mutual trust on both sides (he's sending out the engine before he has payment; I mailed him a check today before receiving the engine) - we met briefly at NSXPO 2005 last year but I think this would have happened this way anyway, and is really a statement on the kind of people you find on NSXprime and in the NSX Club of America. Not that you shouldn't be careful, of course, but there are a whole lot more examples of people helping each other - many of which don't get reported here - than the few problems that we occasionally hear about.

I should also add that I already have others to thank in many ways for their help in this situation. John Vasos at Acura of Brookfield was wonderful, as always; he FedEx'ed a main relay to me at the track when we weren't sure what was wrong with the engine (trying the easy/cheap/likely steps first) and was also very helpful with advice all along the way, as was Larry Bastanza. Mark Basch called Ross when he heard about my predicament and will be packing and shipping the engine. (From the time I was told that the pistons were bad, to locating and agreeing on the purchase of Ross's engine, was less than three hours!) Ted (NSX tech) and Mark Dettlo (service manager) and all the rest of the folks at Muller's Woodfield Acura are very competent and I know they'll do a good job (we're fortunate in the Chicago area to have them close by as well as Acura of Brookfield not too far away either, two excellent dealers with lots of NSX experience as well as experience with engine and transmission internals and rebuilding). I've had additional offers of help from NSXprime/NSXCA members Bob Kenney, Ponyboy, the nsxnut, MLMotorsport, and others. So there are lots of people helping me out in various ways. If you like, you can consider all of that assistance as people giving back for assistance I've provided to lots of other NSX folks over the years, on the forums and on the e-mail lists and at NSX Club events like NSXPO.

I've had a ball with my NSX for the past almost sixteen years and over 11,000 track miles. This is the first time I'm facing a serious, expensive repair other than routine maintenance and normal wear items. For all the times I've gone to the track with this car (50? 75? 100?) that's not a bad batting average.

Again, I really do appreciate the offer. But I must decline.

However, Ajay (mystican) - when we get together in a couple of weeks for lunch, like we talked about - I'll let you buy. Or heck, maybe I'll buy. ;)
