Hey guys!

My 1998 NSX is completely stock but for some reasons the car does not pass smog. We narrow it down to the cats. The dealer wants to charge me $2800 for them. Do you guys know where i can get them cheaper?

Thanks,
John

You won't find them.. Have someone do a custom fabrication using a set of universal cats.. much cheaper or ask Brian (Prospeed) he is making cats for the 97-99 application now that will be around a quarter of that price. Thats what I'll be buying.

why dont you borrow someone elses catback to see that maybe its not your cats. that way you can swap in and out in the same day

I heard if you add octane booster and run the car hard before the smog test that it'll help. I don't know how true this is but I read it somewhere on the forum and just passing on the info.

Good Luck with the smog test.

Did you run your car really hot before bring it in for the test? I drive 20 mins to the test station and figure it may be hot enough for the test but i failed twice in the row like that. The third time I drove on the freeway on 2nd gear @6-7000RPM for 15 mins and bring it back for the test and it passed. Make sure they don't make you wait because it would cool down and you will fail again. Try it before you purchase $2800 worth of unnecessary part. By the way, my car is only 92 (much older than yours and I have intake, DC header, exhaust and Dali ECU) and it still passed.
Good luck to you

Yeah, borrow somebody elses oem cats and see if it makes a difference. I'd let you borrow mine, but they wouldn't fit because mine is a 92.

You might want to message MJ and see how long it will take to get these....or maybe Brian from Prospeed can get them for you.

Otherwise you will have to take the plunge like I did and buy new oem cats.

Just to let you know that with the high flow cats they will not last as long as oem ones.

Or just find a shady shop to pass it and run test pipes
