Well intermittently that is. Sometimes it will work for a day sometimes not for weeks. Previously I removed the deck and then reinstalled. Everything worked fine for a few days and then nothing. I removed the deck, cleaned the contacts with wurth circuit board cleaner and reinstalled. Nothing. Yesterday it worked just fine and now the next day it's dead. Is this a common failure or do I have some sort of electrical gremlin I need to track down?? Thanks!!

I've never heard of this happening. Is there power going through it, do you know? My guess would be a loose wire/contact somewhere but being that oem units in the for sale section are cheap you may just want to buy another one. However, if there's someone local who has one that you can test first I'd do that. I suggest posting in the NW section to see if you can get some help from local owners.

Maybe it's also a sign that you need to upgrade? :)

I had that happen on my '96 NSX, after I got caught in a super thunderstorm with the top off (1/2" of rain in the console & on the floormats!) I removed the radio, looked for obvious issues on the circuit boards, cleaned up some suspicious residue, etc. Reinstalled the radio & it worked fine. Turned it off & the next time it failed to turn on again. By removing and reapplying the power (the connector) the radio would work again, turn it off once and the problem would re-occur.

I sent the unit to United Radio Service in Syracuse, NY (contact info below). They quoted $185 to fix the unit (including shipping), did so in a timely manner, and its been working fine for nearly 18 months.

I like to keep the car stock, so did not consider replacing the audio system.

As noted, it sounds like a loose connection. Another possibility is that the power button connector might need to be cleaned. I had to buy a used OEM unit awhile ago and found that a couple of the buttons didn't work. I sprayed electrical contact cleaner into each one and they all began to work--and have been fine for 2 years now.
