Hey Prime guys..

I need some help..

I came out of the health club and noticed a huge bird crap on my wheel, Last time I drove my car was a week ago so It could have been there that long cause it did not look fresh.

I rinsed it down and then removed it but look what was left behind!!!

The wheels are the VOLK GT7, Black center with Polished lip.
Do the Volk wheels have a clear coat on the polished lip?

How can I fix this? I got out the never dull and the mothers aluminum polish and they only made it worse!!

Please help!

Joe

Joe, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your Volk wheels have an anodized clear coat. Mother's polish is only to be used on wheels without a clear. Like most aluminum polishes, mothers may cause damage if applied on clear coats. However, I wouldn't really worry about the mothers because I suspect the damage was done before you put on the mother's. At this point, your only option is to take the wheel to Wheels America out in Arlington Heights. They will have to strip the clear, repolish, and apply another clear coat. There are literally only 1-2 places in the country that can re-anodize your lip, so it's not worth going that route. On volks I would only use soap and water. To polish up the wheels, use a product called "wheel wax." It is by far, one of the most safest products you can use on volks.

Mackin is the distributer. Rays makes the wheels in Japan and Mackin distributes them in the US. Mackin is pretty helpful, but they will give you the same info as I posted.

I am going to start here!

I guess they are the manufacture of the wheel?

If this can't get fixed I guess it is a good time to get the lips powder coated black!!

Brings back painful memories of the anodized lip of my blitz wheels.I could not believe that the more I scrubed and polished the worse the lip became:mad:Mild is best, and once the finish was disclolored or stained in some way, that was it.Trying to find a shop to fix them was a pita.I cant believe manufacturers would make car wheels with such a surface:confused:

Yeap, you've polished off the clear coat.

I don't think it will be that noticeable. You should be fine if they just strip the coat, repolish and clear. Give wheels America a call and ask for their opinion. I'm not sure how the wheels would look powder coated all black....It may be a hit or miss type of thing.

NO I did not polish off anything,, the bird crap ate through it!

Sooo Even if I have them reclear coated, it still will look different than the other wheels?

I guess it is time to have them powdercoated black if that is the case!

What are you talking about? Blue Magic is TOTALLY abrasive and ONLY safe on non-clear coated finishes. If you don't believe me, apply it on some clear coat and wait a few minutes. ;)

You're probably right. If it is similar to the blue magic metal polish, it is 100% non-abrasive...

Good luck with the clearcoating....

There is a product called Autosol. I used this product to take out some pitting from my wheels in another car. It cleans and Protects the finish. How did the wheels turn out Joe. I did not know that this happened. I don't know how wheels america can fix this, they are not really known for painting and matching OE finish. They can fix the wheel for curbs and such. Polish even, but not paint. I even heard the manager admit to a guy while I was there getting my wheel's curb rash fixed. Did synth mention the discount by any chance?
