No, It was a friend of mine. Told him he needed more than heaters in the bilge when it gets down to -7 degrees. he obviously didn't listen

Mine is out of the water in the winter... I couldnt imagine insurance not covering though.

he would just sink that one too. If it has an optional submarine mode, he would go for it

THere is no question there will be some grey areas when it comes to insurance... But IMO if your too lazy to properly winterize your boat in cold weather climates, you shouldn't get rewarded for that

I'm pretty sure insurance would actually cover that. I'm confused though - what happened exactly? Did it take on water via snow/rain? When we had our boats in the marina (when I live in Washington), the bilge pumps would automatically kick on if the float sensed water too high - whether or not we were there or the boat was running... we had shore power and just plugged them in every time we'd leave the dock.

I think I am missing something here - I woke up about 3 minutes ago, so forgive me.

I am thinking the ICE penetrated the hull possibly by shifting or whatnot. OR the ICE in the bilge was high enough that when it froze/expanded that it broke through the hull.

alot of variables involved with the sinking of this thing. for starters, all he did was but 2 heaters down in the bilge and went off on a 2 week ski trip. Water could have come in from anywhere, they are investigating... obviously the bilge pumps couldnt keep up, when the marina staff noticed it sinking, a crew put in pumps that just couldnt keep up once the water was over the gunwales. I have a smaller single engine runaabout so i'm not very experienced with winterizing plumbing of larger boats

Yeah, we never had to worry much, because it didn't get that cold in the Seattle area. We now live in Montana and my parents have long since sold both boats.

We had the coldest low temps in 23 years around here last week. low of -7 degrees one evening. 6 boats total sunk at our marina, not sure the cause of the others but know for sure the 500 dancer wasnt properly winterized so i'm guessing the same went for the other 5

On a positive note...The Foreman Grill, Dockbox, Radar and Trac Vision look to be in good shape!

Pool stage on the Ohio river is around 23-26 ft. Flood stage is 52ft which can happen every 5 or 6 years after excessive snow melt up river combined with spring rains. In March of 1997 the river crested at 69 Feet. This should give a brief explaination of Why the height of the spud poles.

Here is a cut out from 1997 at 62 ft

DocL, we have the best of Cinci right here in Ft. Lauderdale. Let's make a Skyline Chili run! Boats are ghey.

Skyline in Florida is definately a win, win.

I need to try this skyline chili. Maybe a good reason for a day trip to Cinci this summer. You Ft Lauderdalians (sp?) should also try a Pittsburgh original, primanti's.

Suggest the roast beef w/egg & cheese. Must also get an Iron City beer with it.

Sad to see about the boat.

Alright Hugh, Skyline Chili it is one day. Looks awesome.

CJ, I love Primanti Bro's. Have been going there for years. I may have to visit both places soon. :)

I guess this thread is now officially derailed. LOL.

Someone fix that boat and go visit Pittsburgh and Cincy and ft lauderdale. (Back on track)

PS the primanti sandwiches are best in the original downtown Strip District location. Something about the old fryers and grilles. Even the sandwiches in satellite locations outside of downtown taste too "light." So if you think the ft lauderdale ones are good, try one in downtown or the south side of pgh (3 blocks from me). Big yum.

CJ - was afraid to open the "your first 3 way" link at work. I'm guessing nothing matches the original at a local shop though?

ha ha... The shops are pretty good, Def no comparison to the watered down grocery version available on line. It would be worth a visit!
