I have a 50" Sony Grand wega projection TV with built in surround, and i have an older sony home theater. I recently purchased a rocketfish wireless rear speaker unit to connect my rear theater speakers without running wires across the hardwood floor. the rocketfish uses standard speaker wires to connect to the component.

What i would really like to do would be to cut the home theater reciever out of the loop, and just connect the rocketfish to the ports in the back of the WEGA. The problem i have is that the TV only has RCA jacks-

Does anyone know of a converter I can plug speaker wire into that will plug into my TV's RCA jacks? This way i could eliminate the theater reciever and make more space in my component rack.

It sounds simple, but I have been looking all over the place and most folks are recomending I break out a soldering iron and make my own cables. I am not that handy with electronics, so I would prefer to just buy a box to do the conversion.

I am not an audiophile or anything, but i would prefer if sound were not significantly degraded.

I appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks!

Philip

Then what is going to drive your front speakers? Are you just going to use the TV speakers instead for your fronts? Your receiver is probably driving the fronts and center right now, nevermind that it is also the crossover for the subwoofer if not its amplifier as well (depending on the speaker system).

Even if you were to make such an adaptor, it will not function properly. The transmitter in that rocketfish is designed to receive a high level signal. Going to the TV's RCA outouts is not only going to give you too little power to drive that thing properly, but its also going to give you regular left and right audio which is very different than the surround channel audio.

These wireless systems are not very good at all. If you want to have nothing in the rear there are plenty of things out there that allow you to get great sound from just a front set of speakers and a sub. Depends on budget. Yamaha soundbars are some of the best but most expensive, companies like Boston Acoustics make systems for as little as $250 (on ebay) that have a soundbar and a wireless subwoofer. Then you can truly toss the rears, the wires, and the receiver.

Ok, I'm not an audiophile either, but just based on my simple knowledge, I'm not sure if it works quite like that. The RCA connections are just a sound signals, very little power. In fact, there's probably not enough power to actually drive the speakers. You still need an amplifier to process that signal and increase the power so that it can actually drive your speakers. I don't believe you can cut out the "middle man" home theater system, since it is an integral part of the process. Unless of course your rocketfish has built in amplification, which I doubt because then it would only require an RCA connection.

Sorry fellas- I missed some details.

The rocketfish is a powered unit. Both the transmitter and reciever are powered individually. see the unit here. So i am not worried about them needing to draw power from the TV.

I don't currently use the sub unit, as I live in a condo building and I don't want to piss off the neighbors.

The TV has adequate sound for our small space. The only reason i want to implement the rear speakers is due to the fact that my a/c unit is located in the hall closet with my washer/dryer. This closet is adjacent to my living room and when the A/C kicks on it drowns out the TV audio to the point where we have to crank it way up to hear it from the couch. By using the surround speakers that are behind the couch we can keep the TV at a reasonable volume and still hear clearly.

Connecting the rear speakers directly to the TV seemed like a logical solution, but I can always keep it the way it is, and just run one output from the TV to the Home theater, and connect my wireless rear speakers to that component.

You can try the RCA plug to speaker wire input on the rocketfish transmitter, but you may get little or no volume. You may wind up with a lot of hiss.

You don't need a special wire, you can simply take any RCA jack, cut one end off. Strip the jacket back, seperate the center and outer, twist it up, and use it like speaker wire or attach some speaker wire to it. Take the outer sheild and that will be your " - ", and the center will be your "+". Do the same on both sides. Turn the unit on, and see if you get any sort of volume. You will have to do this with a variable set of RCA outs, otherwise you will have no volume control. You won't damage anything by doing this. If it doesn't work, you will need to either keep the receiver or get some sort of small amplifier to do this.

If you are brave, you could actually steal the speaker leads off the TV's built-in speakers by getting into the set and then wiring those up to the rocketfish.

Here is a link in case you just want a ready wire. But like I said, this may not work well. It depends on the Rocketfish's ampifier sensitivity.

Thanks for the info. At this point I think I will probably just stick with the reciever. My thought was that if I could find a box that plugged into the TV with RCA jacks, and then had spring jacks for the output to speakers it would be a solution, but I really don't want to be rigging up makeshift cables.

thanks again for taking the time to respond to my question.
