Folks,

I just read about Honda's Secret Museum, following is a link to that article.

http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2007/112_0704_torrance_honda_museum/index.html

As you can see from my sig, I own a MINT condition 1985 Prelude now with 21K orginal miles. The condition of this car is MINT from inside out. Everything is original. The original paint is in excellent condition, as well as the interior dash and fabric. After I read the article, I think it would be really cool if I can contribute to this museum, because right now I'm just storing this car in my garage and drive it a couple of miles once a week to keep the fluids moving and seals intact.

So what do you guys think would be a good starting point? How can I get a hold of the right people? I'm looking for your advice and opinion, thanks!

Can't help you with the museum, but that is one sweet 'lude. It truly belongs in a museum, to be cherished for the ages.

There was a discussion of the secret Honda museum in THIS THREAD. No one was successful in making contact with anyone connected to it, but perhaps you can start up the harassment again. :D

+1 And if you do get the OK to get in, dont forget to ask to get them to let your local NSX brothers and sisters in as well.

You might want to try American Honda in Torrance and see what they say.

does the prelude have some significance for you? otherwise i can't see wasting garage space on one that old and common. obviously its not your commuter car, and you make a point of saying how mint it is... it's not like it aged particularly well style wise.

holding out for a barret jackson auction in 80 years? it might be worth over $50 by then!

id be willing to buy that car off you :) looks fantastic!

In the words of the young Indiana Jones, "This belongs in a museum!"

Sometimes it's not worth holding onto a car and saving it for the right occasion. I think your Prelude is a fantastic car, but it's not particularily special. That being said, why not just sell it and put a little change in your pocket. Unfortunately I think it has more sentimental value than cash value for you.

Please check your PM's.

Thanks!

1UFO 2C sent me a PM sounding like his from the museum and state that the museum is no longer looking for cars. I felt suspicious and asked him whether he works for Honda and can provide me a contact number so I can find out some of the details.

Never heard a word from him. Sounds to me another NSX_NICK want to be.

Guy's been on here for 6 years, I highly doubt he's a spam artist.

I can vouch for Brian as a long time Honda employee. You can take what he said to the bank. He left our area to run the Honda auto shows out of the Torrance HQ, so he knows what's up with the museum (and lots more, truth be told). But, as you know, Honda wants to keep it under wraps for some reason, so there wasn't too much else he could say to you and nothing publicly at all. The real reason you have not heard back is that he's a busy boy (on the road most of the time) which is why he hasn't been on this forum for a couple of years and has not even had his "totally Comptech'd Shad to the max" car on track for almost that long.

Too bad there's nothing more that's available for public consumption. :frown:

I've got a contact who is somewhat affiliated with the storage facility you speak of (American Honda doesn't want people to call it a museum). PM with the details, and I'll mention it when I talk to him next. Met him totally by chance at the S2000 homecoming last fall.

As immaculate as that car is the cars in the Honda museum (aside from the race cars) have 0 miles on them.

I had the good fortune of being able to tour the Torrance "museum" twice this year, once over the summer, and once earlier this month. It's a very "hands-on" museum. The cars are unlocked, and you can get in and sit inside them, open the hood, etc.

The cars in the Torrance facility are just regular cars. Some were daily driven and have many thousands of miles on them. There are some cars with only a few hundred miles on them. The NFR 2004 NSX they have in there only has about 75 miles on it. The Prelude that the OP used to own would be right at home in the museum.

It's actually a rotating display. They have more cars than they can keep in the main facility now, so they rotate some cars in and out and store them in another storage facility.
