My stereo/speakers/amplifiers are shot. The think the best bet is to mount an aftermarket one but HAVE NO IDEA how to do this! Are there dash kits out there for this? I've searched and had no luck. Or should I have the old system repaired? The right speaker crackles has high pitched sound!

Your best bet is to just have them repaired. There is a member here BrianK that offers this service. I seen he advertises on e-bay also......

Are your speakers the only thing your having trouble with?

Yes, I think the speakers are the problem. THey crackle and high pitch, could the head unit be a problem also?

Thanks.

Thanks 1,000,000. I think I'll do that.

So you think it's best to keep OEM? Eventhough a lot of people just don't like Bose system at all?

Thanks again.

If it were me...depending on your budget, I would get a decent 3 or 4 channel amp a good pair of seperates and a sub for the footwell, Zetoolman makes a great sub box.

Get the wiring harness from SOS

Use your existing head unit to run this. This will completely blow away the Blose system in your car. Of course this depends on how much you like stereo equipment/audio.

If money is an issue a good pair of seperates and amp will still sound better than the stock stereo, if you pick your amp wisely you can add the sub at a later date.

I love Brian, he does excellent work but why repair something that is a piece of shit to begin with? Go completely aftermarket. There are a gazillion threads in the section highlighting all kinds of aftermarket installs. Spend an evening with the search button or simply set the Forum default so you can see threads going back a ways and read!

When your climate control unit gives up the ghost though, call BrianK immediately.

Should add that I only said to use the stock head unit as a cost savings, if you have no budget at all then go completely aftermarket. If budget is a consideration I would change the head unit last and do the speaker and amp amp first, sub same time or later and lastly the head unit.

Just had all three of my speaker amps repaired by Brian a few days ago. Thanks Brian! I'm fortunate enough to live only an hour away from him so I had opportunity to meet him in person. I'd highly recommend his services, very quick and professional - great guy, too! Keep it in the community and go to Brian. Still can't get over the fact that you fit into an NSX, Brian. Hope to see you at future meets!

Good to meet you also. I do fit but it is a little tight but with a little adjustment to the seat bottom padding it's all good. You should see NSX2tall he makes me look short http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/member.php?find=lastposter&t=74797

coupla reasons come to mind:

* not everyone appreciates the difference between a higher-end set up

* not everyone is interested in investing more than the time required for a plug'n'play swap out of original parts

* not everyone is interested in spending $$'s for higher-end replacement system

* all of the above

OP - if you're interested in experiencing the type of sound your nsx shipped with, brian's the guy to get the parts from (i replaced one of my units through him ~3 months ago. if you're interested in learning about what others have done, recommended systems, etc., prime's got a boatload of info - just use the links hugh provided and the search feature.

The pleasure was all mine. You're actually the first Prime member I've met in person other than the previous owner of my NSX. I hope to be able to put more faces on screen names in the future.

 He's got to be some kind of contortionist. If he can do it, he should take that act to the circus! I'd pay to see that!

To the OP - queenlives makes some very good and valid points. I paid only a fraction of what it would cost for a complete aftermarket system. There are plenty of other options if you want to go aftermarket but if you want the most cost-effective solution, Brian is your man.

It comes down to your taste in music and what you want to listen to. I am VERY picky when it comes to sound. My G35 came with a Blows system, had to change that first thing, and that was made in 2003!

If you like music, you have the best car made in the industry, so make the sound as good as the car!

The car I was working on had bad speakers when I started with it. I picked up some off prime from much newer cars, and still the sound was not to my standards. So, I asked the owner if I could change it. I was told to do what ever I wanted. SO, that is how the Zetoolbox (family) was born!

You can do a system on a budget, like was suggested, start with the speakers and change head unit later:biggrin:
