How to remove shift boot retainer clip

I'm wanting to remove my center console to paint it. I have the aftermarket shift boot retainer clip made by Scopr965 currently installed. I sent Scorp a PM but he hasn't logged in the site for a few months.

How do I get this off? How do I get my shift boot off of the shift stalk?

At the 12 and 6 o'clock position about an inch below the plastic chrome ring you will feel the tabs. Push them towards each other and the boot will slide down from the shift knob. Then you can unscrew the shift knob. Once you remove the entire console there are two screws on the underside that attach the boot to the console. It's a bit tricky the first time, after that you'll see how easy it is. You don't need to use much force.

Thanks, I'll try it this morning. I've taken my center console out many times but this was before the shift boot retainer clip was installed.

Still looking for advice on how to unclip the Scorp965 shiftboot retainer clip so I can remove my center console.
