I met a nice Police Officer last night

Just FYI - since I moan about police so often....it's only fair that I report on a non negative incident with a police officer.

Last night I was driving home and was pulled over. Officer asked me if I knew that my registration was expired. I said no, and showed him my license and insurance card.

He runs my license and returns to the vehicle and says...you might want to get that taken care of, someone else will give you a ticket for it.

I've been driving with expired tags for a little over a month...

It was a plus that the officer didn't give me a ticket, which he had every right to do....but
The man was respectful....looked me in the eye when speaking to me, and had a very pleasant attitude. He was also a sheriff.

Score one for the good guys.

Local Sheriff? They tend to be a bit nicer.

Its funny because typically people don't post the nice things about anything. That includes traffic stops. Its only the bad ones you hear about and its typically "bad" to you if you are getting a ticket, etc, even if you deserve it.

Just my $0.02.

So I have to ask....why are you driving with expired reg? You are just asking to be stopped.

Agreed. Wasn't doing it intentionally, bud. I moved within the past year and did not update my address at the BMV and my forwarding must have expired at the post office....my renewal notice didn't get to me. Things like this can slip your mind.

I've got lots of stories.

Got pulled in my NSX for no front plate. I know damn well I'm supposed to run a front plate in Va, but I just didn't want to. Cop let me off with a warning. I got home, ordered a bracket from dali and put it on.

Got pulled over in my 66 Mustang when I was a teenager. Brake light went out. I told the cop I would fix it on the spot if he would let me. 3 minutes later I had the 4 screws out, new bulb in, and put back together. No harm no foul.

Was at a 7-11 as a kid in my 66 Mustang. I'm sitting there waiting on my friend. Cop pulls up beside me. 'Excuse me'. I'm thinking crap, what did I do. 'Nice car!'. :)

I like cops.

haha, lucky... the sheriff in my town is a creeper, i see him like 4 days a week and he sits at the breakfast table with my dads employees and just stares... he did let me slide when i got pulled going 108 in a 45...

I "pulled over" a cop two weeks ago. I got behind her and waved her down, she actually stopped. I walked out of my car and came to her window. I asked her for directions to a shop I was looking for. She was nice and helpful. It turns out I was 10 blocks off. The Russian owner told me 38th Ave, instead of 48th.

Cops are generally awesome.

My cop stories...

I had a cruiser pull up next to me ... it was a nice day so both of us had our windows down... he looked over at me and said, "Want to trade cars?" I laughed and said, "na...thats cool ... I think I'll keep mine ... its faster." He got a huge smile and drove off.

Second story.
I was driving to work and decided to let the NSX stretch her legs down the street... no body was around except a Dodge truck behind me. I came to a stop light .... looked up and the Dodge was right there. Next I see a very pissed off face from the COP in the Dodge. He was cool enough to say over his loud speaker, "You in the blue NSX, keep your speed down". Actually was pretty cool because at this time there were about 8 other cars at the stop light!

cops drive blue Dodge trucks in Temecula?

No... it was a white Dodge.

He was cool about it.. but he was PISSED!

Like I said ... there was no one else on the road except him behind me when I jumped on it.

I got stopped by a lady cop
In my automobile
She said get out and spead your legs
And then she tried to cop a feel
That cop she was all dressed in blue
Was she pretty? Boy I'm tellin' you....
:wink::biggrin:

I got stopped for having expired tags once... turns out, someone stole my sticker while I was parked somewhere. The sticker showing on my plate said 1992 (the one lifted was 2002... and all the ones underneath it).

In all of my times that I've been pulled over, only once has a cop been a prick. And that guy was of Korean descent. This was like 6 years ago. I was in a modded E46 M3 and happened to wear a baseball cap backwards with the window down when I was making a turn and he saw me and turned around and pulled me over. It made me think he was just a hater because he knew I was Korean too.

Every other time, cops have been real nice to me and trust me, I've had many many tickets in my younger days (my record in 1 year was 10 tickets). I sure paid a lot in lawyer fees that year but at least I had a perfect driving record :)

I've had plenty of cops be pricks to me, but in all fairness I started it. 99% of the time if I'm polite and respectful they let me go with a warning or are willing to drop the ticket when I fix the problem (license violation, no tag)

That just made my day. true stuff is the funniest!

Most people tend to only remember negative experiences and form opinions based on that. That being said, most officers only talk to you unless there is something wrong. I assume the officer was having a good day and didn't want to deal with the paper work.

I was downtown Phoenix one night and a crusier pulled up next to me and said over his PA "wanna race"? I rolled down my window and smiled and said..."as long as I dont get a ticke for winning" he smiled and we went out ways.

I thought "So he is the ONE"

Sheriffs and local PD usually let the small stuff go. Highway patrol are the ones to stay out of trouble with. They rarely let anything go.

As far as leniency for traffic stops go...
Sheriff>Local PD>Highway Patrol

Yes, avoid Highway/State Patrol officers.

Got stopped last night. She said my pipes are too loud for state regulations. I happened to be down shifting though. She let me go because I still have out of state plates.
