If money was not an issue... (exhaust)

Back from my winter hiatus, and ready to dust my '98 off, and bring her back out onto Canadian streets.

I've read the many threads here about exhausts, and I'll do my best not to mimic topics/threads beaten to death here before.

I'd like to secure an exhaust for my NSX as soon as possible. Money is not an issue. $2k... $3k...$5k, it doesn't matter. I realize it's all a matter of taste, and having seen many online videos, sound clips, etc, of top exhausts, I'm completely undecided. The consensus here tells me the GT-One 5.1, GT-One F1, Advance Titan GT, as well as Tubi, are apparently the closest you'll get to the coveted Ferrari sound in an NSX, without actually owning a Ferrari. In all honesty, the only time I truly like the sound of the NSX, is when you release the gas, when she's in high RPM (not the healthiest tactic, but... for those few seconds, when the RPM is dropping- and the car is still in gear, it sounds pretty wild).

Naturally, I don't want a cliche generic exhaust sound. I don't want it to sound like an American muscle car, a cheap Civic sporting a Wal-mart exhaust, or a beefed up Mustang. I want the NSX to sound as it naturally should: an "exotic".

Alas... I'd be grateful if any NSX veterans would impart their experitse on what they feel is the definitive NSX exhaust, if we're chasing after the Ferrari sound, and... if money isn't an issue. If anyone can provide a link/contact info along with their recommendations, I thank you in advance.

From all of those youtube videos and that huge exhaust thread, the combo of GT-One 5.1 exhaust and GT-One headers in titanium will give you the best F1 sound, of couse, if you want to mimic the sound of ITB's (individual throttle bodies) the fujitisbo headers and parallel exhaust (what vancehu runs) is a good combo.

My favorite 'cost no object' nsx exhaust is the Arms Engineering Sohryu:

+1 for arms engineering

or GT-ROM version 5.1 maybe the GT-ONE muffer, and the Arms exhausts seems pretty nice too. Maybe even the Capristo muffler if made will be a nice sounding one. Good luck.

If you look up Turbo2gos NSX with CTSC, GT-ROM Ver 5.1 and Fujitsubo headers that is the closest I heard to a very high pitched noise.....also the Gruppe M Version 3 titanium above is pretty bad ass too.

I don't have a Fujitsubo header, I have the GT-Rom F1 header. I also don't have the 5.1 exhaust, I have the valve controlled version with the Apexi controller as you can see in one of my videos. I also am not running cats on those runs, and the supercharger does change the exhaust tone. It will not sound like that NA. I also don't think you can get the same sound without that header. Unfortunately these are not available anymore so this isn't of much help. You can see the Apexi controller at the beginning of this video on my center console. Its the stick with the changing digits. It opens/closes the valve according to RPM:

Well he got the idea hehe so yeah  now you can here how Dave's car sounds so enjoy!

Oh yeah Dave, post the other video with your cousin......that video has your car sounding more high pitched since its someone standing outside and filming as you fly by.

Wish I had a video from Watkins Glen with the sound bouncing off the wall it sounded the best I have heard it there. Video cam next time for sure! NSXsupra has a couple of good vids here too, he is running a comptech header I think with the 5.1.

Have you heard GT Design Xtreme exhaust with test pipes?

Fantastic clip. If my eyes were closed, I'd never guess it was an NSX. It's a shame that an American company can't/won't build quality exhaust's like these.:frown:

Hmm, well as a new owner I do feel that the Taitec combo sounds pretty darn exotic! Unfortunately cannot compare it to the GT-One but I live the sound, very unJapanese modded car sound if you know what I mean.

If money were truly no object I'd get the Fujitsubo Inconel headers and exhaust. Titanium is for wussies... Inconel is real F1 technology:eek: , never mind the lowly Ferrari street cars

That video always have me cracking up at the end with your cousin being cut off short of what he is saying......lol

But that is my favorite clip of Dave's car....it sounds bad ass!

I do agree if money was no object then getting inconel headers and exhaust would be awesome. That would be mainly just for bragging rights though.....see the link on the price of the headers.....you can buy a civic for that much.

I'm a relative newbie to the NSX community yet so a few of those exhausts you guys mentioned I have never even heard of.....but

I happen to be the lucky owner of a GT-one 5.1 SS exhaust with custom single tips (titanium look). I don't have any headers, intake or anything else and my car is a 2004.

The sound coming from just the exhaust is "PERFECT" in my book. It's a perfect blend of throatiness and that "exotic" sound. But once on the highway, the sound disappears for a nice enjoyable ride until you get deep into the revs.

In comparison, my e46 m3 exhaust is super deep and throaty but will NOT go away until I cruise at over 80mph in 6th gear. It's a bit intrusive on long trips and makes conversation with back seat passengers impossible. The Comptech exhxaust on my s2000 combined with the supercharger noise makes using my Bluetooth headset worthless.

I think my NSX is a perfect mix as I can still use my Bluetooth if needed. An added plus is I don't need a powerful aftermarket stereo (unlike the m3 and s2k) to enjoy the stock system. (CD changer sucks btw on the nsx)
