Putnam Park Driving School & Safety Seminar
May 22-23, 2003
- Update from Paul Lewer
Just wanted to give everyone an update on the driving school and safety seminar we're planning for Putnam Park in 2003. We have the track booked! Dates are May 22 - 23, which are the Thursday and Friday before the weekend of the Indy 500. We are looking for instructors, especially Audi Club members who have previously driven (preferably instructed) at Putnam. We are also looking for enthusiastic students! So - look for the entry form in the next Quattro Quarterly, sign up and come along for a fun 2 days on a fun and safe track! For those who have done track events before, you know it will be a lot of fun! For those who may be new to this, and are considering it with some trepidation . . . don't worry! We all felt like that the first time, but wound up learning a lot about how great these cars are and how they are meant to be driven!
We're still in the planning stages for much of the associated stuff (hotels, meals, banquets etc) but wanted to get this preliminary info out so you can put it on your calendars and start planning to join us.
Let us know if you have any questions, suggestions (e.g. do you have any favorite exercises you'd like to see?) or if you want to volunteer to help (e.g. tech inspections, at-track classes, solicitation of sponsorship from local dealers etc etc).
Anyway - hope to see you all there! For more information email us!

They also are organizing a "track drive" on the 2.6 mile F1 roadcourse at Indianapolis on June 15. This is a rare opportunity to sample one of the more complex tracks on the modern F1 circuit.
Track drive: (Sunday June 15, 2003.) This event is in conjunction with the USGP Fan Appreciation Day and will be an opportunity for Audi Club members to take a controlled lap in their personal vehicles around the 2.606-mile road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is open to any person who has purchased four or more tickets to the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, Sept. 28. The gates are tentatively scheduled to open at 9 am. Car clubs with have exclusive use of the road course until noon, when the track will be opened to the general public. Participants will have their photo taken while cruising around the track. The car clubs will also be offered an exclusive parking/display area to showcase their vehicles to the general public. A catered lunch will be available for purchase in the Formula One paddock area as the Air Canada Grand Prix Formula One race is broadcast live.
