Installed my GT-One headers yesterday...

The installation went well, only taking me about six hours. I could have done it in less, but I ran into a few minor problems.

Anyway, since the GT-One headers and exhaust are for a NA-1, (mine car, NA-2) I opted to go with the Dali Racing test pipes. I love the sound, but it is way too much for driving around town. I did a search and found some people resorting to baffles or resonators in the test pipes to tone down the sound a bit. Has anyone else tried this or have new info or ideas? Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy some NA-1 high-flow cats?
Thanks in advance...

Stop being a sissy.

Yeah its a little on the loud side but... it sounds so goooooooooooooood!!!

I'm a little better off because I have a valve I can close. And that definitely reduces the noise. But it is still loud and I am thinking of some resonated tips. I am actually not all that fond of my GT-one tips. I like the chrome better than the burnt tip look.

Good luck.

I would expect that response from you...

I agree, when you have your foot in the throttle it sounds great, but for driving normal around town it sounds very raspy.

i got a RSR quad tip exhaust and im debating if i should get a test pipe.... (in IL 95 and older doesnt have to get emission tested so im good)

but i wonder if its gonna sound like $hit or raspy.

I'll tell you what it sounds like later this week , I have comptech headers ,RSR exhaust and fitting test pipes in a couple of days .

I'm ordering a set of baffle inserts from "Car Chemistry". I will give you an update on my results.

where are you putting these things? they go inside the pipe? that sounds like a lot of restriction and turbulance to me.

They do go inside the pipe and I am apprehensive about the level of restriction as well, but not as much as I am about getting pulled over on a weekly basis... Seriously though, I'm going to tack them into my test pipes and see how they sound &/or work. If I'm not satisfied, I can easily pull them back out and try something else.

You could also consider a set of high flow cats. We've seen little to no difference in horsepower with these in place compared to test pipes. This will cut down on the noise considerably (especially the raspyness) with out being restrictive. These would be pipe size matched:

Ultimately, I want to go this route but I’ve got other restrictions **cough wife cough** to deal with…

I think the cats are the way to go. I think the other things are a little hokey and I doubt they will do much. The cats look nice and clean and its a simple bolt on. I bet they will flow better too. Chris I assume these are NA1 cats? do they have provisions for the 02 sensors? My situation is I have four 02 sensors but my exhaust is NA1 because of the GT1 header. Last question, do you know what the piping size is on something like a GT-one exhaust? is it 2.25"?

I agree and as soon as my recent mod-spending calms down I will order these as well.
Also, to answer one of your questions, the piping on our exhaust is 2" O.D.

Alright Dave! I couldn't sleep last night because of your words in my head, so I ordered a set of high-flow cats from Chris... I'll let you know how they work.

although my car is a NA1 and completely different exhaust/header setup i can tell you that the Random high flow cats smoothened out the sound significantly on my car. It reduced the noise somewhat to an even toned hi flow sound. Im sure your setup will sound better to your liking with the hi flow cats. Post sound clips when you get around to installing them. Looking forward to hearing the finished product.

My GT-One exhaust/header setup is NA1 as well.

I'll try to do a before and after clip for anyone interested...

The "RSR" exhaust must be really quiet because my setup is insanely loud...

It would be great if you could do a controlled before and after. Same place, same revs. Same camera. Same volume recording. I would love to hear the difference.
