Interesting article in the LFA forums on the NSX and the LFA.

Great read and comparison. I love how he compared the two cars. Avatar ftw lol.

Enjoyed it, but surely the author know a good exhaust and test pipes solve this issue. "The car is also too quiet for what it is. Even in the high RPM range it is not that loud, missing a bit of that exotic car exhaust tone."

The author is

rominl, registered user here, and fairly new owner of the one and only 2002 GPW / white NSX.

Absolutely. aftermarket modifications can fix a lot of things. However to make it apple to apple, it only makes sense to compare the cars stock to stock. Similarly it can be said that with aftermarket brakes, CTSC, etc... the NSX can be an even better car (and I absolutely agree) :)

What a lucky guy to be able to drive an LFA! I'm curious about the LFA after Jeremy Clarkson called it the best car he's ever driven (although he hated the seat belt :D), but I'll probably never get a chance to drive one due to its rarity.

but I'll probably never get a chance to drive one due to its rarity.

I think you mean due to the fact that you probably make less than 5 million a year LOL

I have had the opportunity to hear one take off in close proximity - the LFA that is - and I'll tell you it sounds magical and awesome and if anyone thinks the car needs a custom exhaust - well I say they're nuts. It sounds like the commercial with the glass and it reving - man you gotta be stone deaf if you don't like the sound of that car stock - it's sound is one of the very best attributes of the car.

I watched the Jeremy Clark thing on the LFA since those guys on Top Gear are some of my favorite car guys on TV and it is an awfully expensive car and I wonder how it would stack up against the new McClaren. Oh well, alas, I will never drive any of them because I don't make $5 mil a year and I don't know anyone that does. But it sure was music to my ears to hear it take off! But then again - I sure did enjoy listening to my 91 NSX with a comptech header come on cam! And that is something I can have again - another NSX!

Well I will give you one guess what I miss most about driving the LFA :) Seriously, like you said, the sound is just insanely incredible. And that's both inside and outside of the car

 Quite the claim there. So you are saying an NSX with CTSC, BBK and KW's will be better than an LFA?

Ah, let me elaborate more. When I said that I meant it would be even better than just NSX with exhaust and test pipe.

But with all those stuff, is it going to be better than LFA? I think it will be a much closer match in terms of performance, LFA is still rarer and more exclusive, but NSX offers a more direct / raw / simple mechanical approach which imho no modern high power machine can achieve

Now fellas, let's just get a hold of ourselves here. The LFA is in another league from the NSX - waaaaaaay in another league. That's not to say that the NSX is not a fabulous car - it is but it's not quite as fabulous today as it was say 10 years ago. You can put all the go fast guismos you want on the NSX but it will never equal the LFA. Matter of fact there are those of us that would never put all that stuff on a beautiful 2002 White NSX, we would praise it just like it came from the factory like we do the LFA!

My 2 cents...

I would give my Ctsc nsx for an lfa in a heart beat. Even with the sc, the nsx is not even in the same performance league as the lfa.

at the expense of an extra 300k too :) i don't mean to say the nsx will get into the lfa performance league. but it's also a car that's 20 years old. that's how i did the comparison

I totally agree. My car has a CTSC and BBK on all 4 corners. This pretty much just brings it up to date to whats being sold stock today. LFA is the best japan has to offer these days

That Autoweek or whatever video comparison between the two suggests that the LFA could be a LOT better given the cost of admission. I wouldnt trade my NSX for one, but I would trade my NSX for other cars.

The only NSX I'd take over an LFA would be the NSX-R GT. Come to think of it if I had $375k to spend on a sports car I wouldn't get the LFA...

LFA is an amazing ground up car....but the transmission is kinda weak sauce for what the rest of the car produces.

Ok, so you wouldn't trade your NSX for and LFA - mmmmm - easy to say since no one would ever offer you a trade like that. I suggest that anyone that wouldn't trade their NSX for an LFA is touched in the head - reason - trade for the LFA and drive it a while, listen to the engine sound for a while - sell it and then buy your NSX back and pocket at least 300k - let's see what am I leaving out....

Kelvin, JC has said that about a lot of cars on the show lol. I am waiting for him to do a "I'm Sorry" segment for the NSX. It is such an important sports car and Top Gear pretty much ignores it.

That was a great story and I couldn't agree more. I sold my 1992 to get a change of pace. After under a year in a Porsche (which I quite frankly loved) I sold it for another NSX. To me this community and the story behind the car makes it that much more fun to drive, talk with people about and share. I personally let pretty much everyone drive mine as well. I have let younger kids in my company drive it around many times (yes I am with them, I am not a fan of lending it...). I just want them to get a chance to enjoy it like I do and I know I am fortunate to be able to own it. I even created this from my 1992 which hangs in my office to this day...

We saw three lfa today. First time I have ever seen one. It is amazing in person. Such a beautiful car.

Given the nature of your post, I can't help but to take it a little personal. Of course no one would say "Hey, I'll give you my LFA for your NSX". And if they did, of course most people would do the trade knowing they could just turn around and buy another NSX after selling the LFA. But trading one car for another can be, and is most often, a personal choice. I would not trade my NSX for an LFA means given the opportunity, financial or not, I would not permanently swap vehicles. Not sure that qualifies me for being "touched in the head".

I cant speak for anyone else, but my NSX is MY dream car and has been that for 20+ years. I'd consider trading my NSX for another one of my dream cars. All the LFA is to me, is a modern marvel that only time will tell any legacy it will leave or if it like many others, will just be another blip in the exotic car history. Of course I would love to drive an LFA around for a while, and I might trade keys with an LFA owner for a day. As a car enthusiast, I'd be nuts not to. I'd love to drive dozens of other high end exotic cars, doesn't mean I'd trade my '97 NSX for more than a few of them, and for me personally, the LFA is not on that list.

Shouldn't take it too personal - but I'm sorry for the "touched in the head" reference even though most would kind of have to agree with the basic concept. I'm not being nasty about it - just seems to me that anyone making a statement like that is kind of going off the charts. I know many get really attached to things like cars and lord knows I've had many and I just don't get attached like that so I'm speaking for myself really- cause I know I'd be touched in the head if I ever made a comment like that.

I know your 97 is a nice car but if someone was silly enough to offer anyone a trade of a 400k car for one that is probably worth somewhere around 40k+ - well then I dare say I'm not sure most on this website, just considering monatary value for value, that it would be in the persons best interest not to take the offer - I mean you can always get another car, let's face it. You can always get another NSX too. But hey, it's your car - but how can anyone take a silly hypothetical statement like mine or yours for that matter too seriously - and we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously either.

Sorry for the ruffled feathers but if this "person" ever comes to you with an LFA and wants to trade and you don't want to trade - tell him to call me or write me - I'll make sure I get an NSX to trade him - don't want to pass up a good deal you understand. Thanks for your consideration on that one - I'm sure it won't be long before I get that call - right.....smile.

No hard feelings I hope.
