Internal Antenna Recommendations?

Hi all,

I have an internal antenna installed in my car on the inside of the windscreen. However, the reception is not very strong for FM. I do not wish to place an external antenna and was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for internal antennas for the car.

I've had a look round the forums, but I don't think the Shark II is for me and I would rather like to keep my tail free from external antennas and the OEM antenna.

Thanks in advance.

I talked to my audio shop who will install this stick on the glass antenna for me and they said that with this type of antenna, you will lose 50% reception on FM compared to oem antenna and no AM reception at all. The only alternative as of right now is to use satellite radio. I am not interested in sat radio, don't like the oem or shark antenna, so i will install this glass antenna and just listen to my iPod instead.

Magnum dynalab ST-2 works well, even horizontal. About $100.

I also have a motorcycle antenna on my car and deleted the oem mast. None of the ones I researched had good reception, especially compared to the oem since it is so tall. There is really no winning this battle of looks vs performance... Pick a side

Did you just mount this horizontally in the trunk, connect the wire, and disconnect the power to the OEM antenna, and that's it?

yes, but I didn't make a permanent install. I just tried it. I think I actually put it in the engine bay nea the RWG. Then ran the wire though an OEM hole with a grommet. I got everything local strong. But since I use my phone most of the time now, I don't even use the tuner. But the ST-2 is an exceptional antenna.

Isn't the Magnum originally designed as a home audio antenna?

Hey Dave, with that Magnum product, is the mast required or can you just mount it in the trunk like the original antenna? Trying to figure out if I should buy it, my antenna hole has been filled in (shaved) so the mast is not an option.

That looks amazing. Can someone give an educated opinion on it or first hand experience?

Looks like they just changed the look of a basic antenna. Might work if you strap it to the top of the oem fishing pole. Looks like it belongs on a "as seen on tv" shelf.

Just my opinion

Nero do you realize you bumped a thread over a year old? I tried the ST-2 and it worked very well inside my trunk but I did not have enough time to test around town. I'll try it it I get a chance. I actally just ran some bare copper wire out of the trunk and into the engine bay and had good results. It was like $3 plus an antenna end.

I have an even better solution but I need to experiment with it. I'll throw the OEM radio back in and try it this weekend. My gut says it should work REAL well. It's completely hidden. I'll get back with info next week.

I was talking about the tune trapper

I did, but I still need the information as I have grown tired of my HD radio signal blending in with the crappy signal. :). Let us know about your solution, mine is for an aftermarket head unit btw.
