West coast!
Finally got my NA2 nsx enroute so I'm starting to lay out the logistics of a audiphile quality sound system. I've build quite a few crazy stereo setups but always believed in quality over quantity.

2 simple goals: Keep it clean without sacrificing ANY space and do not drill any holes in the car!

For the front door speakers, I plan on using a generous amount of Dynamat and the Focal K2P Power sereies 6.5" speakers in the door panels.

I'm still debating on the source unit but looking at the new Kenwood double din unit along with CigBlue bluetooth setup.

Does the new Kenwood 8xxx deck have NAVI built in? I don't really need NAVI but would be nice to have. I'm still debating if I want to do the double screen setup or just keep it all in the lower dash area.

For those of you who have doon subwoofers, I do NOT want to intrude at all into the pass. legroom area. My g/f won't notice it but if I ever end up in the pass. seat I want some leg room too!

help me out guys with some advice,
rick

Congrats on getting your NSX.

As for the most stealth, non-invasive, high quality sub enclosure, you should check out ZeToolman's V3 sub.

The Kenwood 8120 double din unit is going to have Garmin navigation included in the unit. If you don't want the nav, Kenwood has a couple other models with the exact same other features sans Nav that you can look into, for around 400+ bucks cheaper.

There's a few threads below on double-din unit discussion, and lots of happy customers with Z's sub boxes if you search a bit.

Good luck! And make sure to keep us posted with your setup as it progresses!

Which NSX did you buy?

I'm not saying till the car arrives but it's a beauty for sure :)

Yes the GT3 sold in only a few days once I had it on E-bay, didn't want to post it there but it got quite a bit of hits and sold fast!

Khiladi1020: Thanks for the tip, that's exactly what I think I will need, let me do some searching, does this guy have his own website?

I have yet to finalize the system but looks like the Kenwood deck is going to be my source, using Focal K2P speakers just like in my s2000 and most likely a Alpine PDX amp or something small. I want to have Bluetooth for my phone and a Ipod interface. Keeping it simple in this car since I only want good sound and simplicity here.

thanks guys
rick

x 1,000,000 for Zetoolman's V3...

1,000 x better than stock, Shakes the car inside but not outside and still retains every inch of passenger leg.

Hal is a great guy too !!!!!!!!!!

Buy the one from John. Mounts to the stock mounting points so there is NO loss of leg room and you won't have to chisel off the factory mounting points or move the power steering module.

There has been quite a few concerns over the sound from the sub from John. Don't worry... the sub is incredible!

Not to rain on anyones parade but the sub used in this application only cost $69.95 webmail - one thing I remember about speakers is that the cheaper they are the faster they wear out, especially a sub since they generally take a pretty good beating.

I can't see how the rest of the hundreds of dollars is just the box although it does look good, unfortunately know one will see it once you install it. On the flip side, it seems we have a satisfied customer here which could mean that proper air space is not always required to get a good sound. Another view could be instead of everyone trying to stuff a 10" sub into the foot well of the NSX, maybe a well designed 6" or 8" sub would get the job done and sound better since you could get closer to the correct air space requirements; that 10" is obviously doing a great job for Todd but I'm sure it's not outputting 100% of its potential which may not be necessary leading me to what I just stated about smaller subs being considered - just a thought.

Oh, and here is the link to that speaker in case someone wants to run out and buy one for their custom box...

Blaupunkt ODW1000HP - http://www.midwestelectronics.com/b....html?osCsid=b371af5c28bad2e72c7b32b717e3f6fc

They in fact make some nice full enclosures for around $200 bucks and they come amplified already.

Ah, one more thought - I would suggest that not everyone is looking for boom, boom, rattle your bones and license plate type of base. My range rover has a sub in the back and it only appears to be around 8" and it rocks the inside of the SUV; actually went through the SUV looking for it because it seemed crazy clean and hit very nicely without any distortion or resonance. It's not a very large enclosure either, maybe someone out there that is in the audio business could take a look at some the higher end factory stereo systems for some ideas. There is not a lot of air space in a two seater car - big in my opinion is not a requirement but rather effective and creative design is...

I'm sure you could get an adapter made that will accommodate an 8" or 6" sub to fit in the V3 box, then you'll get the air space you're looking for (if that's what you're after).

I have both V1 and V2 and the quality is there. Price may be a little high to some degree but it's worth it.

Thanks Veleno,

Some do say it sounds high for the subs. But, lack of knowledge is typically the cause for that. With what it took to R&D these and all the trial enclosures made, multiple professional tooling, aerospace fasteners (that are expensive!!) to install the sub to it, plus professionally made with expensive materials nice and thick all adds to what it cost.

Once the person has received their sub the reaction is WOW!! much better than I expected and it was worth it.

Cost is immaterial, it is the quality and value. I did not design a cheap enclosure, I designed the BEST for the high end NSX!! All in all, you get what you pay for, so, do it right the first time. I have had countless guys buy what they thought were cheaper great subs only to change out to one of these in the end. Which, ended up costing them more at that point!

I welcome any other sub option for the NSX and have asked several times to others making them to send me one and I would give it an honest review. No one has taken me up on that, I guess lack of confidence in that comparison.

As I am down to final production and only have a couple of the V3's available, those who want the best, I hope get one before they are all gone. I have had several who have gotten both different versions for that reason.

So, it must not be too much $$, if someone is going to buy both!

Here is my setup. I bought the car about two years ago with all of this done. I believe these pics and instructions are still on SOS's site. This is actual car, so that makes it a celebrity:tongue:

Some passenger footwell space is compromised, so this is probably NOT the option that you are looking for.

guess again... perhaps just a lack in comparison.

The V3 sub is about .35 cu. ft. of air space and is factory in size! It gives great range and depth of bass! I can get you the sub empty and you can get your own driver for it.

Subs revisited, I was talking to a very respected shop and they told me you MUST cut the factory carpet to install any aftermarket sub enclosure due to the design of the floorboard!

do you guys all cut your carpet to make this enclosure fit?

Off topic but has anyone tried to fiberglass a custom subwoofer in the section between the seatbacks where a stock speaker resides?

No, I would not do business with that shop. I'm using the Zeetoolman V3 sub, sounds amazing, no carpet cutting required. And having installed it myself, I see no reason to cut, other than aesthetics, if you prefer to show off the enclosure.

As was stated, no carpet cut with the V3 and it sounds great!!

It has been done to put the sub between the seats, but I see no reason with the quality of subs designed for the floorboard. As bass is non directional, it is not an issue. As anyone who has installed one of my 3 designs, the bass feels like it is hitting you in the back! It is actually quite cool, when you think about it!!

Hope this helps!
