Is the floormat carpet anchor necessary?

I just got a set of zanardi floormats and the instructions say to install this anchor that came with them. My 91 doesnt have any anchor and ive never had a problem with the floormat moving at all. Installing the anchor requires cutting the carpet and id rather not cut it if it is not necessary. So is there any reason why I should install the anchor?

I think it prevents the floor mat from rolling when you move your seat front and back.

Hmm in the installation directions it says its to make sure it doesnt slide forward and interfere with the pedals. I havent had any problems with the old one so i dont think im going to install it.

Didn't them zanardi mats come with the metal thingys in them?

Or they not OEM ?

Im not sure what metal things you are talking about. It looks like the same design as the old one but with the small hole on the bottom to mount the anchor. The hole is under the seat anyways so you cant see it. It is oem.

o, oke, see what you mean now , i can't remember i had to cut my carpet though, thought the holes where in the carpet allready, and you just had to push it in a little. But then, maybe a previous owner had carpets in it before, and did a excellent job on the cutting.

I for one realy like the anchors honda provides with the OEM mats, proper way of fixing them.

Well if they ever slide for me ill go ahead and install the anchor, but I doubt it will happen.

Darn! I'm tired of my '91 mats moving, and was thinking of buying the anchor for the newer models and installing it. Anyone got one they don't want?

Dont hey have foam underneath them that prevents them from sliding

If your floor mats are cut to proper size, and come with our recommended foam backing (where the luxury segment of the industry is moving) you should have no need for the hooks.

Our mats have a better fit than the OEM. And even with our rubber back offerings, thus far we have had only two clients requesting the hook from us, which we also offer as an option. One needed it because when he was getting out of the car, he put his entire body weight on his right heel as he pushed himself out of the car; and he is 6' plus and well built

YMMV

Nope, mine have a hard plastic bottom with bumps. After 14 years, it needs new ones anyway, I guess I should try the new kind.

My drivers mat tends to slide up and to the right over time as I get in and out.

I have three cars:

My '91 NSX has the original OEM floor mats. Despite plenty of use of the seat forward/back mechanism (every time I enter/exit the car), the floor mats stay put. I assume that's because they are thick, high-quality floor mats, and they are designed to fit snugly in the floor, without any extra space. No anchor is there and I really don't think it's necessary.

My '94 Integra GS-R has the original OEM floor mats. These are of average quality and thickness IMO. These mats do slide and shift around from use. No anchor is there. I wish there were one.

My '01 Integra Type R has the original OEM floor mats. These were standard equipment, newly introduced for '01. (Previous years ITR used optional mats similar to my '94, but with the Type R logo.) These are extremely thin and lightweight. The car came with the anchor as standard equipment, and the mat (at least, the driver's side) has the metal grommetted hole that slips over it.

Bottom line: I think the anchor is quite useful for average or lightweight thickness mats, but not at all necessary for the heavy OEM ones for the NSX (or high-quality aftermarket ones like Hrant's).

How many miles are on your car? I think I have the original mats, but after 14 years and 135000 miles, they're a little worn. Maybe that's why they won't hold still.
