Apparently he forces this rule on magazine writers as well.(or maybe he wrote it himself) :D I'm pretty sure this article could have been written in one or two paragraph.

:p

What year is this car originaly?

John, your car is insane. I love it. I had no idea your car was so "finished" if you know what i'm saying. Very very nice work.

I have to ask you though, what's up with the interior? Door panels? Pillar trim? Carpet of all things? Do you have any idea how heavy this stuff is? This is unnacceptable John......

I believe it's a '97...since the original shocks are now on my car. :)

Nice write up John...love the car as always. John Z will be done with mine hopefully be the weekend.

Ha ha. I didn't write it. Didn't see that article but looks like old news from the S3 shoot I did. In general, most of the tuning editors write crappy content and have no idea what they are looking at.

I like how the one close-up photo of the right front wheel shows a bunch of wrinkled Gaffer's tape at the fender line. Nice touch...

Like that? It's ok. It was shot at the end of the season. Definitely nothing to be ashamed of... racers tape is usually found on all cars that are actually driven. 40,000 miles and 15 track events in 10 months on just my 2K... and five events in the first 8 weeks this year it is getting kind of unavoidable.

Most of the local NW guys will assure you that for a track duty I keep that NSX in excellent mechanical condition, going over it every year. :)

Simo, I went above and beyond for that shoot, I streeted it up with a full interior and two seats and my nice Mp3 stereo that day to try and make it look presentable for the 'S3 readership'. At the moment the car is stripped with 1 seat in the 2600's.. slowly moving down that Doug H. road my new carpet is courtesy of PPG. :)

Awesome Eric! I am waiting on a few last parts and am just about wrapped up myself. Look forward to seeing you this weekend! I'll swing in briefly and then am off to a PCA event at Portland.

John,

If my car ever grows up to be a wide body, I want it to look just like yours. Seriously, clean, clean, clean. Nice job!

Regards,

Danny

Damn John as always just beautiful!

No offense meant, just an observation that perhaps they could have chosen a cleaner shot.

Thanks Danny for the plug not to mention those JRZ's!! I guess I can give in...

I am getting too many nag PM's and posts for the details and am at 99% inbox capacity. Here are the latest pics from assembly this year... as you see I finally made the move to one step from full off-road track rat. The dial has been forever turned, now that I have to work harder being the lowly NA under dog. Hopefully my updated interior is now 'raw' enough for Simo-

I hope to soon enough see just how many seconds... Project Highlights below.

Forgive the door panels, I haven't gutted my doors out as the lexan to replace my glass is still MIA from my angle in R&D land... and I need my power mirror controls. Probably will throw back in my window net.

Highly visible changes are extensive chassis tuning and safety this year. Since hand controls don't look like fun, better safety has been fore-front on my mind after Frank's bad accident at Pacific. Extended to back. Doors X'd out. Additonal over-head bar. Additional lateral bar. Optional cross span bar. Additional anchor points and spec mild steel backing plates. The plan is to round it out next year with gussets and extend it to the front. What I can when I can.

Revised seating position, I probably spent 4 hours trying to find the right spot and angle. Recaro SPG Pro Hans with custom fitted shell, custom aluminum mounts, and modified NSX floor pan for maximum safety and head clearance with a helmet on. BSCI FIA safety padding shown. Less visible is all the plumbing for the coming rat maze of instrumentation sensors.

What's to say here, 180lb Passengers can cost 2 seconds a lap. :)

PRS / Kisinger Prototype electronic master battery cut off system and SPA Halon fire system. I should do a thread on this work. Good stuff this can save your life. Same shit they use in the P1 prototypes at Sebring while saving pounds of all that heavy battery cable. Lightweight Lexan rear hatch from Dali helps lower my CG.

JRZ double adjustables I re-built and shock dyno tested with new tein upper mounts, valving, and 18kg springs should blend well with the knife edge sway bars and monoballs. Bump steer kit hopefully coming soon. Hint, hint. Super secret kick ass new brake system happening now!

Awesome John@Micro stereo system I primed and painted the other day with my HVLP. I think this is how NSX trunks are supposed to look, if you can't stomach the sawzall approach.

Your car is hot!!

More winter projects kept me busy this year...

GT One carbon fiber head lights- every ounce counts right ?

Graphite foam core front under panel I made saved 2lbs over last years design and is way more rigid and should hold up better. Previous years were a toss up between aluminum honey comb or heavier plastic so I tried something new this time. It's angled back 15 degrees to the rest of the paneling and is a far more basic design then my wing-in-ground-effect front bumper under shape from last year. Adding flap to keep the air away from those huge front race slicks soon and perhaps more surface area on the splitter.

Accusump and extensive oiling upgrades per recent oiling threads... hopefully will let me relax more during T5.

Since tech's never sweat the little details at 8am at club events.. I figured a better refined diffuser and scavenging exhaust orientation which has been better re-adjusted to go with my new catamaran can-am style under trays sounded like a good idea per Katz's book on race car aerodynamics. I believe myself and a friend on Honda-tech are the first to try something quite like it on a production car.

Angled triple pass front radiator takes place of everything else, 4 ply hoses at every junction, full front shroud and GT inspired rear one to vent to the hood louvers currently off for maintenance in this shot.

... and More (hey no one said anything about 6 posts)

Annual drive-train Inspection and tear-down courtesy of titaniumdave. NSX Type R LSD and 4.23 short gears installed. Replaced my Exedy clutch and flywheel. Currently testing some expensive Dumonde oil.

Modified lower core support bar (near the clutch line) allows for the slightly lower engine position in the chassis. Under trays again shown off for service.

John buddy, when I do my annual road trip to Seattle this August, you gotta bring that car by!!!

John when you say "slightly lower engine position in chassis", what are you talking exactly? How much... Is that why you modified the support bar or was there some other reason behind it?

John,

Do you know Jim Labreck (aka - jimlab)?

He either worked at MS or is currently working there.

Very bright guy....... and is grammer correct. :)

No. I try and not come out of my bat cave more than I have to.

I modified the engine mounts allowing me to drop the engine and tranny just shy of about 3/4 of an inch closer to the ground. It is still a pet project of mine in progress in many ways as at the moment I worked within the contraints of the OE mount design with a solid aluminum core instead of making all new ones. I wanted to do a lot more, but you can only manage a little with our stock orientation without making things really complicated for yourself (with trays) so I took what little I could get. I figure every mm counts.

I consider 3/4" a lot!!!! I can't believe you were able to get that much. Did you notice a difference driving at the track?

Not yet. It's actually closer to 5/8" it depends where you measure from it is hard to get in there. Good things take time and this has been an on and off pet project of mine.

I'll post a separate thread with details then once I'm stable and have an opportunity to test the results this year. It is difficult because I often make many changes at once so really to me it's like a whole new car out there. I think it is plausable that we could put together an Al Terpak style hardware kit, so if the community wanted they could do it relatively painlessly but ideal is custom mounts which is bank. However, in design big changes net big rewards, and I've had my eye on larger visions and other items back there, so I honestly don't know how much longer I'll be keeping much of the subframe long term anyway.

Guess what you're helping me on next John

Ahh... Painting your center console and maybe installing a Type R shift boot.
