keyless entry testing?

I have an oem keyless entry brain and key fob from my 97. The light still lights up when I press the fob but how do I know if the brain still works? I don't wont to bother hooking it back up as my car has an aftermarket keyless entry/alarm.

put your hand under the passengerside glovebox do you feel a black box the size of a cigerette pack? now stick your head under there and look at the box, do you see a wire harness that is plugged into the black box? when you press the OEM remote does the doors lock? if YES then the aftermarket alarm piggy backs off the OEM harness or SCU it works remove and sell to me with harness.

so I can make copies of the harness I lost my last one and couldn't make copies then found someone to loan me theirs but they never shipped it and I said screw it
