Well i been reading up on knock sensors and couldn't find the answer to my question. If you have a faulty sensor no conductivity it will throw a cel. If you have a faulty sensor when it's just picking up all vibrations and ticks will it just kill timing and run richer then usual and not throw a cel. or picking up noise from lma's or ticking valve train will that cause the knock to throw a code or simply fool the ecu that there is detonation and do its usual job and cut timing with no cel?

I ask this because i have access to my knock sensors and pulled the out and did a tap test with a meter and seems to be working. But, what do you consider working, after time do this wear out? maybe not as accurate?

on an aftermarket ecu you can calibrate the sensor to the back ground noise at preset levels. higher rpm results more noise and calibration is needed.

one the ems logs i can definitly see when im getting knock since there will be large spikes in the chart.
