Dippy and myself have noticed there have been increasingly less posts on Prime. Or to be more accurate, less people posting. Especially over weekends.

Do we have any server stats to show whether our observation is right or not?

I think you are right Neo. While the weekends are mostly pretty dead, the weekdays have become slower and slower. Not sure what is going on.

I have a couple of theories, but i'd really prefer to see if Admin has any facts.

1) Since the server upgrade, the pages have taken longer to download... possibly due to more custom avatars or larger page sizes, etc.. I noticed a small hit even though i have broadband - there was a slight latency increase from here in Australia. :( This isn't a problem to broadband users, but large page sizes are not dial-up friendly.

2) There as been a few more flame wars & offensive posts of late, and who wants to read an e-fight for entertainment. Sometimes that's enough to send people offline. But that's a wild theory.

3) The website forums on the main page were changed around.

4) The Samuari thread has been quiet.... there's 50% of Prime's traffic right there! :D

I think there is a lot less posting on weekends, but I think that has been true for several years now, probably since the forums first started.

Lud has previously posted graphs of number of posts by month. Perhaps he can post updated ones when he gets the chance.

With only a very occasional exception, I haven't found that the pages take long to download at all. (I have a broadband connection and I'm not halfway around the world, though.)

Management is pretty good about finding these and cleaning them up promptly. I bet most casual users don't even notice them, and only the most frequent users (junkies like us) see them when they occur.

Also, I don't think there have been more lately than earlier. Such wars/posts have been appearing for several years. I can name some of the more prominent early ones... but I won't.

I'm not sure what you're referring to.

How about

5) More people have learned to use the search and the FAQ, so there are fewer repetitions of the same questions over and over again!

6) Forums Nazi has scared off too many newbies posting dumb questions, and Mr.Wolf has "eliminated" the problem visitors? ;)

7) Visitors remain stuck in the waiting line of Forums Nazi's soup shop??? :D

Stopping Emule/Kazaa/... or other peer to peer softwares may help you a lot Neo! :p ;)

There has not been any signifigant change in the number of posts. Every month for the last 12+ months has seen 10,000 - 13,000 posts. If the average posts per day for this month continues, August 2004 will see over 12,000 posts.

Server traffic has a slight up-trend.

Try drinking less coffee. ;)

This may sound strange, but I've noticed the homepage is not updated all that frequently. This gives the "impression" of a static site which may lead to less viewing, posting, etc.
