Okay so i have a 91 NSX and i am slowly putting it back to its original glorious condition except along the way i am replacing some of the things i feel Honda could have done better for the money vs going back to OEM. This of course includes the toolkit and since mine is empty at the moment lets play a game and see if we can't put together a better one for less money.

The Key components needed would be:

#1. a Portable Jack

#2. a Wrench for removing the lug nuts

#3. a Portable air compressor

Honda's prices for these items are roughly $300, $19 & $220. So thats about $540 which seems crazy to me. So if you were going to buy these three items and keep them in your trunk incase of a flat tire on your NSX then what would you go with instead of OEM?

Please be specific and include a price and a place you can get it. Also keep in mind that size is an issue as i would like to fit it all in the original hole with new foam to keep it from rattling around. Also, if you have anything else that you feel is a must include as well feel free to mention it as well.

So, who wants to start us off?

You could stick with OEM and try a little patience. Things come up in the parts section occasionally. I replaced my missing parts (most notably the air pump) reasonably by talking to fellow NSX owners at meets. The first guy I talked to was lightening his car and sold me what I needed. I have a full kit now and spent less than $40.00.

HA, so yesterday I drove the Ferrari around all day, put about 250 miles on it.

I get to my buddies house and we open the front hood so I can show him how big the space is. He asks what's in the leather gag that is strapped to the firewall. I didn't know so I opened it up. It's a can of compressed air to fill up the spare. So then he asks where the spare is. I am like "I don't know" we looked around no spare. So I can lose that bag and can, about 2-3 pounds. :)

Steve I think that is supposed to be that tire patch goop that never works, but allows a car maker to at least offer something(lame) when they can't fit a spare.

Can anyone verify if that is the same jack the NSX comes with?

I have no problem cutting new foam for different parts so long as they can still fit the original space provided.

I was patient buying my spare tire and the mounting thing but it doesn't do me any good unless i have the tools to fill it and put it on on the car and i'm tired of driving around with my 30lb floor jack and my cheap 4 way wrench and Walmart air compressor all sliding around back there and i figured surely plenty of guys have ditched the OEM stuff for something better?

Also, i think i read somewhere that the factory compressor needs to be oiled or something periodically. Surely there is something better out there thats cheaper and requires zero maintenance?

I've been interested in getting something like this, but all those reviews scare me. The little OEM pump has been faithful and reliable.

I'm tired of my dad asking me to bring over my air compressor and to inflat his tires.

Same thing happened to me on Friday night. I was leaving my nieces birthday party and noticed by dad had a flat tire on his Lexus. I saw it was a nail and knew he could probably make it home with some air in it but we were miles from the nearest gas station. Luckily i always cary a cheap pump in all of my cars for airing up soccer balls and stuff for the team i coach. I saved his evening with that $10 thing but it took about 10 minutes to fill the tire. I decided after that it was time to get my NSX flat tire kit sorted out and so i am on a mission to get the space in the trunk filled with quality items for doing the job at a low price. I thought for sure many others here have done the same before me?

I want a trunk monkey.

I'll do one better. Take the car off his hands......

Good luck with that. Unlike most F car owners, he's actually out driving his on a more than regular basis.

Steve, I think that can of goop is for the next time you bend a wheel on a pothole and the bead won't seal right. Use the entire can on one wheel and it might still hold.

Chris,
These are the jacks from my 4 Hondas. From top to bottom: 97 NSX, 98 Accord, 96 Odyssey, 94 Accord

The 94 Accord jack is the closest in size to the NSX. The NSX jack does have a different part number than the Accord jacks. The NSX jack is made from aluminum whereas the Accord jacks are not. The accord jacks will work on the NSX (just tried it 5 minutes ago).

Sounds like you found your dad a Christmas gift.

jacks, tire-irons, etc'...

I know a local kid who meanders through some regional Honda/Acura wrecking-yard on a regular basis for parts that people request. He acquires the used OEM parts for literally pennies on the dollar.

If anyone knows precisely what they want, lemme' know & I'll fwd his contact info' to you.

"Fix a Flat"

How about S2k? What do they have? Spare tire? Tool kit. I had one I shared with a best friend in colorado but we never had to use the tool kit or spare. So I dont' remember if there even was one.
