Lexan T-Tops?

I was tempted to pull an old thread out, but this isn't quite the same.

As someone mentioned previously, the MR-2 has glass T-Tops, which gives a very open feeling even when the tops are on.

Has anyone considered either replacing the aluminum with Lexan or Glass, or cutting a (large) hold in the center of the T-Top and putting a window into it?

All C5 coupes are the same way and have a see through top.
I don't know about cutting a hole in an existing one, but if someone has enough money I'm sure they could have one fabricated. It could be to the same specs and measurements of the standard t-top... only made of same or similar material to what the C5 uses.
Don't know how it would effect safety in a rollover.

I figure it wouldn't be any worse than a rollover with no tops in place :-0

What would you guys pay for a quality Lexan "T" panel?

Would you want it clear or a smoky gray, dark blue or dark green tint?

remember the latching mechanisms are on the targa top. This would be very difficult to fabricate IMO. The most cost-effective way to do this would be by using a factory targa top, however, those are very expensive. ~$3k new I believe?

I'd like dark blue tint :-)

Don't know if the latches on the NSX are out of the ordinary. Seems like an entire replacement top would be popular and should cost less than the 3K OEM lid.

Does anyone know where one might obtain a T panel? Damaged would be OK.

Jimbo - Do you want to do anything destructive to it or just take it apart an see how they are built? If the latter you can borrow mine when it turns to full-on winter weather in a few weeks....

I'd be interested in a Lexan one, but I'd honestly have to try one, at least on someone elses car, before I would commit.
