some people have said M3 is a more reliable car than NSX or S2000 somewhere. i never owned M3. not interested in that ugly car. at least. in my eyes. it's not something that can be compared to NSX. Dont bash or hate me.

those people who have owned M3 and NSX. which one 's maintenance cost cheaper. i really like to know. anyone has idea. please post. thx

As always buy a car with maintanence records, that way you don't have to worry about spending much. I can tell you all cars need service eventually its about finding one with service complete. If I had to pick between the three I would recommend an NSX with timing belt/ac/clutch work complete.

Good luck

What are you specifically asking about? Clutch, oil change, brakes, coolant, scheduled maintenance, timing belt, other major stuff that is not wear and tear related? It's hard for people to give you a comparison when you didn't provide a list of items you want to compare.

sorry about this. i am talking about everything on those 3 cars.

E46 M3 = $0.00 (included free for 4yrs)

NSX = if you have to ask, then...

first 4 yr = nothing. nothing will break unless u abuse the car.

E46 M3 's parts are more expensive than NSX????

or nsx's parts are more expensive???

If you have to ask - meaning, you are stretching your budget so that maintenance costs are a significant concern - then get the S2000, not the other two.

No. That's only for new cars. The E46 has been discontinued (and replaced by the E92 M3) and so has the NSX. The E46 M3 and the NSX would both have to be purchased used.

NOT true. Things can break and need repair, on any car, even one as generally reliable as the NSX. To a large extent, it's a matter of luck, which things happen to go wrong on any particular car. No one can guarantee that nothing will go wrong. If a car is under warranty, the guarantee is that you won't spend anything to fix them, not that nothing will go wrong.

Why are we talking about E46? You CAN'T get a new one any more!!!:confused::confused: Therefore, if you buy a used one, you only get the balance of the warrantee - if there are any left.

---->True. The original question was what I paid for maintenance (assumed everyone knew that NEW bimmers came with free maintenance 4yrs) back in 2004.

E46 M3 isn't half as reliable or durable as an s2000 or NSX. As far as I'm concerned this is fact and statistically provable if such information was available. The only one I dealt with needed 12k in PARTS at 35k miles, warranty up at 36k and it was sold at 36,500 and I stopped driving it after 36k besides gingerly to dinner or the like. The z3, 5 series, and my friend's cars were more or less just like that. Fun to drive, great feed back, but half way between honda and a british car quality wise.

I've tried* to break Honda's and they just wouldn't do it all stock. I've tried not* to break BMW's and can't avoid doing so. Great cars though, but if maint. is even an issue any benefits they provide won't be worth the surprise repair bills IMO on used models.

The E46 is not a reliable car at all. The early models (~2001-2003.5) spun rod bearings. They claimed to have fixed the problem several times (i.e. they issued a recall and replaced the engine) but the fixes (refurbished engines) broke too. I believe this cycle happened at LEAST 2 times.

The last M3 I heard of breaking like this was a 2004. I haven't heard anything 2005 and beyond. All this despite the claim that 2003.5+ was fixed. I believe 2003.5-2005 came with 100k warranties because of the problem.

besides the engine, I've heard of many other problems with M3s (window trim falling off due to weak glue, various electrical gremlins, Rear subframe welds weak and caused separation, etc.)

German cars are not as reliable statistically speaking.

Of course, you are talking about maintenance, but it's related. If you have a warranty, I believe the BMW is cheaper since maint. is included for 4 years. But outside of warranty, NSX hands down.
