Metric Speedometer

I have recently imported an American car into Canada. The speedo has KM/h on the inside but is such poor resolution I can't tell much dif between 120 and 140 (but a cop sure can!). Does anyone know where I could get a metric face for the speedo (assuming this would work)?

Thanks

Whilst doing a JDM conversion of my NSX I was unable to find a metric overlay and I tried very hard.

I ended up buying a EU spec metric speedo and it worked just fine. The speedo's swapped out without a problem. Drives everybody nuts in the States, but I like it just for that reason!

There are two "swept" (?) patterns for the speedo. I believe the early NSX had less of a swept area, which is probably the reason for your hassle right now.

Question came up:

>Where did you get the speedo, cost?
>How difficult to install? DIY or dealer install?

Swapping out the speedo was easy once the cluster came out. Removing the cluster is quite the curse word generator... Just take your time, remove a few screws, be clean and just drops in.

I believe I paid about USD $200 for the speedo. I also bought an EU Bose head unit, which has nicer features than a USDM, but the reception is much worse.

I got my stuff from Dirk ([email protected] or [email protected] ) have no idea if the emails are still good. This guy took over a shop where some other [famous NSX] guy had died and they parted out the left over NSXs....I believe other NSXers can come up with the name quite quick.

You can easily convert the English climate control into Metric:

Mine is a European spec but the big ones read MPH and small not really clear ones is KM/Hr. Got speeding tickets ones at 50KM/Hr zone (infront of the Sultan's castle) for driving the car at 65KM/Hr. Very hard to drive at the same time read the tiny KM/Hr speedometer. Just behind me also got ticket was an BMW M5.

I suspect you have a UK spec, RH drive vehicle?

I believe the folks from the UK prefer using miles for long distances, might have changed with a new generation in the past 15 years. I also believe that the UK is an not officially part of the EU at all.

My transplant speedo is from the EU mainland is all KM with ~270 degree swept area. Probably not from a 1991, more like a 95. Very easy to read in KM.

Actually it is France spec as stamped on the radiator cover. It is RHD and 91 model.

Not that has anything to do with the thread at hand:

Got more information or pics of the "Fr spec"?

Fr does drive the RH side, so it is hard to imagine a new sale of a new RHD car. Also anything that is remotely American (like a miles speedo) would probably get the Honda dealer fire bombed, all their windows broken and 24/7 boycotts by the local farmers.

I'm still guessing that the car was originally UK (or even US/CDN now if it is an Acura) and got registered in Fr. It seems that Fr is a bit liberal on registrations and that it is the gateway for oddball and kit cars to get their toe hold in the EU.

Cool, your car has quite a history!
