Midwest travel to NSXPO?

I was wondering how many here would be traveling to NSXPO'05 and how. I'm still undecided on whether I will attend (still no car!) and want to see what type of dedication others are going to have for an event so far away from us.

I would like to ship/fly. So if there are any thoughts of a group thing I'd be interested.

Count me in as well for ship/fly. I am hoping that maybe some of the Chicago people can jump in as well, maybe some of the people from out here in MI so that we can fill a truck.

TIM,

look forward to seeing you again

Mike, we will definitely have to hook up. You can see the "real" car. JD, just drive it up and ship it out with the rest of us. You know that you are going to miss the car on those drives

Tim,

I am flying out with Barnman and our plan is to bum rides and rooms, sort of a NSX hippie movement. I know he will be successful because he can fix anything on our cars. My value is still to be determined, but as some of you know I like to supply more than my fair share of red wine.

Wonder how many of those crazy Canadians will make the trip?

I may be in for transport... Trailering my own.. Anyone up for a 2-3 car trailer rental? Shared expenses and towing?
If not I may just drive...

I am thinking about driving or trailering, if I am able to make it. Without my NSX, there doesn't seem to be much point in me going to NSXPO. YMMV.

i'm open for suggestions both sound good to me.

I am going to drive, but at this rate it looks like I might be pushing it instead. :frown:

I've found quite the opposite to be true. I've been to all eight NSXPOs - five with my NSX, and three (the most distant ones) without my NSX. I have found that the only thing I was really missing without my NSX was driving in the track event. And yes, if this is the only thing you care about, then I can see how the above statement might be true. But I've enjoyed so many other things about NSXPO - the ability to meet and chat with all the members from all over the country (making new friends as well as renewing previous friendships), the great food (the food really is quite good, comparing favorably with other group events), the scenery on the drives (there are always lots of folks with empty passenger seats who are happy to provide rides on group drives and between venues, and this is another way to meet and chat with owners), the fun activities, the great mementos, the pleasant surprises, etc. And I've been able to enjoy all of these things just as much without my NSX at the event as I did with my car there.

There are probably as many reasons to go to NSX as there are people going. So each of us must think about why we might or might not want to have our NSX there, and whether it's worth attending without our own car. Based on past experience, for me, it's a no-brainer; I will be flying to NSXPO 2005 and leaving my NSX at home.

I am aware of your opinion, and do not disagree that it is a good option as well.

For me, wanting to have my car there is not all about a track event. It is about having my car in the mix for all of the events, the drives, the photos, the activities, etc. I do not dispute that one can have a great time at NSXPO without their car, but I want to have mine when I go. I put a lot of miles on the NSX each year for a non-daily driver, so the drive to Phoenix doesn't seem that much of a problem. I put 500 miles on it yesterday.

Am also planning to ship/fly... Tim is looking into possible truck arrangements, as documented in another thread.

I was talking to my wife about this last night....if I have the time to go I am leaning towards driving it there because I figure the more miles the merrier. It is not like I care about resale value or anything. ;)

(P.S.- If I ship one way it will only be because I do not have time to pull off the drive both ways. Anyone who has an idea of costs for this one way please let me know.)

Joe

We are trying to figure that out right now... :)

...any updates on people here shipping and costs??

Thus far, best price I have gotten is around $1500 per car on an open carrier and 10 cars which includes everything. Pickup would be at a common location in Chicago with delivery to the hotel. Covered carriers would be around $2000 per car with a need for 6 cars. All of the covered carriers insist that they will be 6 cars, not 7 as stated by others. Still waiting to hear from 4 carriers.

For all of those interested, PM me. We can get carriers as few as 3 cars and can do 1 way or round trip. If I can't find any other interested persons, I might transport one way and drive home. Can't get the time to drive both directions.
