I can't believe it in this day and age, that some loser would stoop so low as to throw a rock at my car and smash the front window of my car while I was driving! I was amazed at the strength of the glass itself! The ouside is spidered, but inside it didn't penetrate thru, amazing!

Notified the Police right away, and filed a report. Not that they could do anything about it anyway!

Thanks to the individuals responsible for damaging my baby! What goes around comes around!

Anyone know approx how much its going to cost me to replace the window? I might have to put this claim thru my insurance company?

Wow! What a testament to the strength and shatter resistance of the glass in these cars. Thanks for the pictures. It makes me feel a heck of a lot more secure seeing what all that glass around me can withstand.

It looks like their is no metal damage and I assume insurance will take care of the windshield. It could have been a whole lot worse.

Why do people do stuff like that? I have no idea. All I know is it makes me both angry and sad. And I hope that some day some how they can gain a little more respect for themselves and the property and well being of others.

I recently had to replace my front window due to a mishap at a local stereo store. The installation took about 45 minutes. The stereo store ended up paying for it and told me it would have cost me $500 or so for the window. Not sure how much with installation. On the plus side, it gave me an opportunity to replace my front window molding.

We had an incident like this in Australia a couple of years ago: two young kids threw a brick off a highway overpass and into the windshield of a car below. The guy had a massive heart-attack, crashed the car and died as a result. It was a huge story here.

As strong as the windshield is, i'm even more amazed at the strength of your nerves (and heart! ). Glad it wasn't worse.

Check with your insurance company or local authorities but here in Florida, front windshield replacement is completely covered by your insurance (ie no deductible) as long as you have full coverage.

Sorry to hear the incident.

If its going to cost less than $1000 I would not FILE a claim under the Insurance company, wether you have $0 deductable or not, the claim itself would be used against you where you end up paying for it in the long run (increase in Premiums etc). Save your claims for the big ones.

Be thankful it didn't come through the window and hit you or a passenger. About a year ago two young punks in my area dropped a brick off of an overpass and it went through the window of a car and struck a woman in the face. What was amazing was that she still had the wherewithall to pull the car over preventing her and her daughter from getting in a serious accident. She had to have major reconstructive surgery and is still facing even more surgeries to fix what they did. The good thing is they were caught and are now standing trial. I can't believe what some kids do these days....

Seems like these stories are becoming all too common these days.

A couple of years ago I had a similar incident in my Acura Legend. I was driving down one of the busiest streets in my area with 4 passengers (foreign guests). Just as I passed under a pedestrian overpass there was a terrible smashing sound from the right side of the car. Everyone in the car was understandably startled. In the rear view I saw a chunk of concrete rolling in the street. I pulled to the side immediately and surveyed the damage. There was damage along the top edge of the rear passenger side door along with a broken rear window. I then looked up toward the overpass but was only able to see some kids scattering.

Police reports were filed but nothing came of it. The repairs were covered by my insurance less my deductible.

One can only hope that the propagation of these stories do not lead to more incidents in the future due to copy-cat behavior.

Everyone please be careful, it is a dangerous place out there.

On a more horrifying side note I was witness to the aftermath of a double suicide where two individuals decided to take their lives by leaping off of a highway overpass into oncoming traffic. I cannot imagine the horror of having a human being suddenly fall onto or in front of your vehicle. Still sends chills up my spine.

The NSX oem windshield consist of a two ply tempered glass with a plastic sheet in the middle. The outer sheet of glass absorbs the impact and the plastic middle sheet prevents the inner sheet of glass from shattering or complete break through.

My car has the factory alarm, I guess I just didn't hear it go off
I assume it happened between midnight and 6am while I was asleep.

Nothing was stolen, I had a few magazines in my passenger seat and random stuff in the glove box and center console, but everything was where I had left it. No other damage to the car, no signs of trying to steal the stereo or anything.

Seems like just a random act of violence, I sure hope I do find out who did it though. I'm going to ask the neighbors later today. I already filed a police report, and ofcourse, that did nothing.

Sounds like an aftermarket windshield. The ones from Honda cost 2-3 times as much as that.

Beware, aftermarket quality varies. Some owners have reported noticeable distortion with aftermarket windshields. Others have insisted on using genuine Honda windshields for that reason.

That is a description of "safety glass", which is used in the windshields of all automobiles sold in the United States. You can read more about safety glass here.

I don't think the factory alarm has a "glass discriminator". If someone breaks a window, it does not set off the alarm.

Do these kids not know that they could kill someone?? I can guarantee that those kids would not be throwing anything if I caught them....if their parents cannot teach them respect, I would be happy to show them their consequences.

I think its more along the lines of "we can get away with this, and nobody can punish us". Thats why they do it between 12 and 6am, or from atop an overpass from which you cant really turn around and chase them. Its a shame really, I certainly cant even fathom wanting to do something like that

HaHa... no my screen name doesn't have anything to do with it.

I got pricing on the windshield... I insisted on Honda glass to the insurance c/o, there is no aftermarket avail in Canada at the moment. But PPG used to made glass here for the NSX costing around $300~450CND but they don't manufactue unless there is a demand for it. There were only like 2~6 cars sold new 2003~2004 in Canada.

Lucky for me a friend has his own glass business and he can get me Honda glass for $695CND I'm going thru insurance so I've got to pay the $300 deducatable. I also might need a new window sash and or moldings as well. If I were to pay for it myself it would be around $1000CND.

Damn, I feel like I have the worst luck sometimes... but good thing the fist shaped rock didn't hit the paint or roof, at least the windshield can be replaced easier than repainting parts of the car!
