Nav. pod or Double din

Iam thinking about which would be best, a monitor/head unit in the stock location (double din) or replace the clock with the nav. pod/monitor and keep the stock radio?

Any thoughts pros/cons? :)

If you are watching movies while driveing, better go with double din or mounted flush in console. If monitor is displayed up high, cops will write you a ticket...if it it's for navigation or rearview mirror, mount it where you like. I think the pod is really ugly and takes away from the smooth lines of the dash, and it looks added on. No flamers please, just my 2cents..P.S I am installing a one piece center console trim, and mounting a Alpine 9835 with a Alpine 5.8 letterbox monitor below it flush with console. mine will be mostly for the color camera I will be mounting in the keyhole by trunk.....

The advantage of the Nav pod is that it provides more area to work with but it's specific to monitors only and will preserve your double din for head unit(s) if you need it.

I think that the Eclipse double-din Nav unit is perfect but the cost is relatively high and I've heard mixed reports of the Nav functionality.

I'm of the opinion that less is more but the Nav system I'm using is married to a double-din stereo so I need the Nav pod for the screen.

I respectfully disagree. My nav pod is mounted in correct location and have never been pulled over or questioned by cops about it. Guess my slow driving helps. :D
As for the smooth lines, that too is up for debate. It's not like it is just a plastic box that sits on top of the dash or something, but rather built and designed to look completley OEM. I much prefer the look of it and keeping the OEM head unit as opposed to messing up the flow of the console and putting something square where something curved is supposed to be.
One question for you though. How do you honestly figure it is easier to look down to the center console for your monitor rather than just glancing over at the nav pod that is pretty much already in the line of sight??

I am leaning more to the eclipse or kenwood double din units.
Anyone know what color lighting the Eclipse unit uses? I think
Kenwoods lighting is blue.

Good point as to looking down, mine is for rear camera only. I may do a split screen rear view mirror instead not sure yet. OEM headunit can't compete with highend headunits like a Alpine 9835.

However, you might consider putting a cig lighter outlet somewhere for general accessory power purposes, since you'll lose the one in the ashtray obviously.

I completely agree with you there. I only use the OEM unit so it won't attract attention from would be thieves.

That statement cracked me up!!! Hell your car will atract way more attention to thieves than your aftermarket stereo.. I do like the stealth idea. You could install a aftermarket headunit in your glovebox, and just use a remote.. I swear everytime I take my nsx out, I have to check and see if there is a naked girl in the front seat because of all the people walking around and pointing and stuff. What I really like is the people who still have the new tags on there vettes, bmw,or even porsches, that get less attention than a 12yr old Acura!!!! It's all good!!!!!!! :)

Good point, maybe hide one or two in the glovebox or console...

I have mine relocated to inside the center console. There is also an LED light in there that is illuminated when the lights are turned on so you can see where the plug is.

Great idea...like the led light too. maybe put a switch so it comes on when door open?
