Looking for a navi system the kind you just stick to the windshield, not a nav pod. Was hoping some newer ones on the market now are better improved. Had a garmin in a rental the other month and it got me lost. Had another one last year that couldn't keep up cuz I was going over 65mph.

I travel all over the united states to look at property, so I rent alot of cars. Last year I purchased the Magellan Roadmate 760 from Best Buy for $599. GREAT product. It's never gotten me lost, never lost me, gives turn-by-turn, re-routes, and has a ton of POI's. Highly recommended. Now you can get them on eBay for less than $300...

Thanks for the info. Wonder how old this model is, I want the latest technology and maps. Does it give you street turn by turn?

I have two Garmins: StreetPilot 2720 (very heavy and large--great for my P/U truck, but horrible for the NSX) and the Nuvi 350.

The Nuvi has turn-by-turn and all street names are actually spoken. This is a huge feature. It's "Turn right on Elm Street" not "Turn right in seven hundred feet".

I've also driven with a RoadMate and a Cobra product. I preferred the Garmins to both of them for ease of use. Reliability never has been a concern.

The model is about a year old... but I haven't had any problems with POI's or finding streets. It still has all the current technology... turn-by-turn, spoken street names, re-route, and heavy traffic re-route (it senses when you are going slow on a highway and offers a re-route, which both of my double-din Nav's don't do). The only problem I've had (and it's the same with EVERY Nav I've used) is that it's hard to find numbered highways. For instance today (I'm in Texas looking at a Hotel), I needed to find Old Hwy 90 in San Antonio. I couldn't get it to pull up no matter how I entered it (HWY 90, Highway 90, 90, Old Highway...). I eventually ended up doing a POI search for the Hotel and it popped up then. Nonetheless... I love it. I wouldn't travel without it.

*edit - I have also used this model in my NSX with no problems.

Also, I don't know the model number of the newer version, but my Father-In-Law has it. It is the same as mine, but the antenna is a little different and it has MP3 capability (which he never uses cause he's got an iPod).

Its the Roadmate 800 which I see for sale on ebay with the same price as the 760. The 860T is the newest one. http://www.magellangps.com/products/product.asp?segID=354

I'll probably get the 800 since its the same price and has 3D views, not a fan of Garmin after getting me lost royally a few times. Thanks for the info everyone.

I'm very impressed with the NUVI 350. In my opinion it is easier to use and more intuitive than the TomTom and Magellen. I really like the fact that it says the street names.

Gave one to my 75 year old parents for Christmas and they don't have much trouble using it. I know they would have had lots of issues trying to use the other ones. When I bought it, Walmart.com had the best prices. The more expensive models add bluetooth capability and other goodies.

I got the megellan roadmate 800 for 285 on ebay. Its refurbished but couldn't tell, looks new. Read some reviews and I agree that it takes way to long to acquire location...about 3+ min. It really needs a clear view of the sky as it does not acquire a signal in my garage or when I don't have it mounted on the windshield and instead on the seat. The other thing is that the head of the car power plug is long so it sticks from the cig lighter. My hand is always hitting it when I have to shift, esp into 3rd. Same problem with my cell phone charger. The placement of the cig lighter should be on the right end of the console not the left end where it gets in the way of shifting. Other than these, the navi works well.

Wow, well, glad it works for you even with the "other" problems. Mine will not get a sig in my garage either (must have clear view), but I didn't think of that in my previous posts. I have not had a problem with the shifting/cig lighter combo. Maybe try a short shift kit? and see if that helps. Mine does take a few mins to acquire a location, but that's only from start-up and I thought that was the norm. But hey, at least mine never gets me lost...
