Need Advice

Hey everybody I need some advice on what to do. This weekend I noticed that I had a nail in my left rear tire, so when I took it in to the tire shop they said that the nail had bent and eaten away the sidewall making the tire useless.

What i'm wondering is would it be okay to buy just one new tire or would i also have to replace the other tire? The rear right tire has about 8k miles on them with about 60% tread life.

Any advice would be much appreciated~!

also would anybody happen to have a stock re10 lying around they'd be willing to sell??

Can it be done.... yes. There are people riding around with 4 different tires on each corner.

Should it be done.... no, not with the NSX. I would buy two tires and put the extra tire away for a rainy day. You never know, the same thing might happen with similiar tread left.

BTW, did you actually see the damage to the inner sidewall. Was the nail that far over on the tread?

You may want to take it to a tire repair man and see if it can be patched from the inside. Might get a different answer then from the tire sales guy IMO. If you do need a tire, buy two!

I've got a RR RE010 with about 500 miles on it I'll sell you. Its about 6 months old, and has a screw in the tread area. I am told I can be easily fixed, but I chose to replace it. PM me for pics.

Yeah I actually did see the inside of the tire and a sizeable chunk was ripped/gouged out by the nail. The nail went in pretty close the sidewall and bent in against the sidewall when in punctured the tire.

Does anybody have any recommendations as to where i should order my tire from?? My friend told me costco tires online has some great prices.

I've had great luck with Tire Rack .

My Costco doesn't normally carry the tires sizes I need. Tire Rack is always a good option.

It usually takes 2-3 days from ordering to the front door. It might take a couple days extra since you are half a country away.

Tire Rack also has a warehouse in Rene, NV, so shipping to WA should only be 1 to 3 days.

Buy just one (same as the good one) and have it shaved half ways down the thread.

I personally would not. But if someone doesn't want to pay for 2 tires and is concerned of having one with full thread and one with half thread, shaving the new one to half depth could be a good compromise.

Alternatively, be safe and buy a new pair and keep the odd tire as a spare or for when another fellow NSXer may need one, just like when you are asking if anyone has "stock re10 lying around they'd be willing to sell??. "
