New to the NSX. My new buy a 2000 came with 02 own rims with potenza re040s. The front are still good but the rear are running thin. From what I read these tires are no longer available. Car is only driven on weekends an will never be tracked Looking for suggestions for a good replacement set. Also do I need to replace all four or can I just replace the rear ?

Although it's best to use all four tires of the same make and model, you can get away with using different tires if they are all relatively similar in performance. (I hate the idea of throwing away tires that still have plenty of tread on them!) My suggestion would be to get a pair of the Continental ExtremeContact DW for the rear tires (255/40-17) to use with the RE040 fronts. Then when the fronts wear out, you can get the ExtremeContact DW in the front size of 215/40-17. (Note - for some reason, they're not shown in that front size on the Tire Rack website, but they're available in that size from Discount Tire Direct.)

Why 255 instead of 245 for the rears?

I suppose you could go with either. Most folks use 255/40-17 rears with 215/40-17 fronts. (Not that it matters, but those are both the stock tire sizes on the '02-05 NSX.)

Thanks for the info, Ken. I keep forgetting that the 02+ have 17/17 rather than 16/17. BTW I managed to snag the last set of Continental ExtremeContact DW 205/45-16 (and a set of 245/40-17) from Tire Rack to put on my blue NSX, so both my NSXs have the same tires now.
