Neu-Stang (2010 Mustang GT links inside)

Nice, but Ford really needs to lower them a tad. I watched a spanking new Shelby driving down the interstate the other day and man those cars set too high.

Are you thinking ride height (suspension) or roof height?

ride height is probably dictated by front end clearence over a suburban driveway (perhaps prime user "Blodi" can enlighten us more). Since the Mustang is more "civilized" than an NSX, and will see more daily driver type use, I imagine it prevents engineers from getting too aggressive with the suspension. This is easily remedied with some new springs from the aftermarket (and probably the first thing I would alter).

As for roof height- I think this is caused in part by the need to accomodate 4 passengers- the roofline offers the bare minimum of headroom to your back seaters, but it still prevents the "swept" look of the Giugiaro concept.

either way- i really like the defined Shoulder line in the rear quarters, and I like the "cleaner" overall look. The car looks far more swept back and refined than the previous model which I think looks sort of "block-y" in comparison.

I was actually one of the designers on the interior for the 2010 Mustang. Its cool to finally see it unveiled to everyone and see the reactions. Its funny to think here we are almost in 2009 and I did the the initial sketches for the interior door panel back in 2005. I got to drive a lot of current stangs while I was working on this and this one is a huge step forward on the interior. I am sure the main complaints will be the solid rear axle and no new engines. The new engines are coming for it in 2011 though.

*Edit*
Also, I wanted to say that its funny to see all of the references people make to how this took on a lot of the Giugiaro cues and such. This car was set in its design probably a year before the Giugiaro concept came out. So you might say the Giugiaro borrowed from the 2010.
H-carWizKid has the right idea with all of the feasibility issues of the car. Ford tries too hard to make their cars acceptable to everyone a lot of times.

I like it. The interior looks better. I don't understand why they wouldn't put a six speed in it??

Also...coming in 2011. I don't know why the major engineering updates were all a year behind the design updates. But its that kind of great planning that got Ford into their current situation isn't it?

The interior is a major improvement! Excellent work!

Hard to understand not introducing the new powertrain options with the new car... Seems like another excuse to wait an additional model year before buying.

Man I agree 100%. How long is Ford gonna milk the POS 5 speed. I drove a friends GT awhile back and that thing was hard as hell to shift. Other wise I liked the car.

Even if you lower the mustang, the bottom of the car (the spot right behind the front wheels) sits far too low compared to the front bumper and it doesn't look right without some sort of front lip... The car really isn't designed to be lowered unfortunately... without MAJOR scraping... :frown:

I don't get it - it looks just like the old one. Combo of retro and Rubbermaid.

The differences are subtle- but if you didn't like the old one (and it reads like you didn't) then it is highly unlikely you would like this one.

I have always liked Mustangs for what they are (with the exception of the malaise era pinto-stangs). This car stays true to form. Caught somewhere between practical and impractical with more performance than the mundane, and less than the extreme.

I think the interior is a huge improvement over the current generation but I'm not so keen on the exterior. The front and rear bumpers are over styled to my eyes and the car seems like it's lifted with a Rancho suspension with those wheel well gaps.

IDK. I don't see any major changes. Yeah some freshening up and if thats what they set out to do then they did well. Same with the interior, doesn't look like anything but a lil freshening going on, nothing that great.

same with the nsx, but i think now that i see the 02-05s it grows on me more each time. but for some reason i can't seem to like the new mustang style. i like the older style which had more aggressive body lines, imo. but this new one for 2010 looks promising for many mustang fans. not me though, i'll stick with the nsx.
