New Cats May Not be Needed

I have heard from a mechanic that the codes that show a Bad Cat error are often wrong. The owners end up with errors even after they have replaced the cats. Well I have a P0141 error which is an O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 as well as the P430 error which apparently points to a cat.

Anyone have any experience with these two in unison? Perhaps I should replace the 02 sensor before messing with the cats no? Or do you think my only fix would be new cats? I have a 98 with 66k.

p0141 is heater circuit malfunction. P0430 is catalyst efficiency below threshold. I would replace both. P0141 is not going to reverse itselt, P0430 may come and go,eventually require replacement.

O2 sensors are about $200 and cats are $1200, I know what I would replace first.

Duh, of course I would replace the $1200 cats first......:biggrin: :biggrin:
