New Hood and Fitment Question.

EDIT

Issue resolved, hood being returned.

Body shop quoted 450$ to make adjustments to the hood to make it fit better. That still would have been quite a bit cheaper than a Down Force or Back yard special.

Something to consider. I am just not going ot pursue the R type hood for a little while here.

Thanks for your considerations guys! Much appreciated.

Don't want to sound unsupportive of your purchase. You have a 2003, you have nice wheels, but you refuse to spend little more for a hood that has the reputation of 99.9% fitment - AKA DF. If you need the body shop to do all the adding of bondo work, by the time they're done, that is if they do a good job, you will have to pay a lot more than the price of this hood with paint job.

From the look of it, the Seibon hood is either VIS hood, or VIS knock off, which explain the gap. You can shift the hood towards the driver side but you will have gap problem with both fenders. However, if you want to try, this is a simple way to do it. You will need to bored out the two holes in the front hood striker, which will allow you to shift the front part of the hood to the driver side. Of course you will need to loosen the four bolts on the hinge so you can shift it.

If the problem is still not solved, return the hood. it's not worth it.

My VIS doesn't fit as well as OEM, but it sure fits better than yours. You may want to swap that one for a new one.

I've had several Seibon hoods in the past, several. None have fit properly, none. I have the VIS at the moment because I'm too cheap to buy a DF, but will never buy nother Seibon, never. The VIS fitment is "ok" but thats it. I've seen other VIS fit much better than mine. Sorry to burst your bubble but Vance is dead right. Ditch the seibon and invest in a better hood. You have a nice car, it deserves a nice hood.

I had a gap just as bad as yours with my Backyard Special hood. I loosened the bolts on the top of the left fender and was able to slide the top of the fender closer to the hood. You can then balance the left to right shift by adjusting the bolts on the hood hinges. Be gentle and work slow - you don't want to bend your paint. The only problem you might have is that your fender is already close to the headlight so there may not be much room left to move toward the center. But I'd give that a try before throwing in the towel. Here's mine after the adjustment:

That Is what I was going to try. Im going to take it to the body shop that is going to paint it to see what they say first!

The hood is of good quality, so we will see what happens.

Also, the Down Force hood is 2250$ + shipping. I got this hood for 800$ shipped.

With that extra cash I was able to get Stacy Sids skirts, A NSX-R wing and down force Front Lip and rear diffuser!

I think ill try and fix the gap before I throw in the towel!!

seems 2250 is kinda too much.

For $800.00 you'd been better off with VIS. It is more structuraly sound than the Seibon. Good luck, hope it works out.

VIS doesn't make 02+ hoods.

$2500 for a hood is rediculous, absolutely rediculous.

The rape me price of the OEM one is only $1700.

that's the "NSX" mark up price:frown:

there's a lot of new parts coming from other vendors at half the price, i'm sure if these "new" vendors took a little bit more time with the fitment issues they would have a lot more customers

you guys are killing me.

Chitown nsx. sorry for being blunt.. but that hood is a piece of shit and does not belong on your nsx . you have a beautiful car that you have invested two years of your blood sweat and tears into. Your car is also worth too much money to put such a crappy hood on it. The hood and the gaps are on the top of your car and probably the first area you and people looking at your car will look. Can a body shop fix the hood and use fiberglass to build up the entire edge of the hood. Maybe but why would you spend the 70.00 per hour to repair an inferior part that doesnt belong on the car in the first place. your fender cannot be moved.. the hood has to make up the gap.

Also, to the other people that think 2200 for a downforce hood is ridiculous, have you ever seen one? i have and the new version of this hood fits a lot better then what chitown is dealing with. Not quite oem quality, but very nice fitment. BTW i am not a downforce biggot, i don't have a single downforce part on my car, my nsx-r hood is a oem honda part.

but when it comes to hodds the cheapest acceptable option is downforce at 2200. then procar is next in line at 5000.00

when you see the quality of downforce compared to this, you would rather spend the extra money and get a hood that acutually fits. if this was my only choice for a hood i would just keep the oem hood. if you don't nail fit and finish you are better of not changing the car.

OEM Type R carbon fiber hood is now $12,000, NOT $1700. A direct replica for $2250 is less than 1/4th the price.

There is a difference between understand the value of a product, or just making statements against certain maker because you're too cheap to understand the value of a good product.

The statement you made is not only ignorant, but unwanted because I have no doubt that you never seen or touch a DF Type R hood replica. When you buy NSX aftermarket parts on a Hyundai Budget, you will make your NSX into a Hyundai.

Look the underside of the VIS/Seibon Hood, it looks like a map of WWII battle field. Not on it is ugly, it has absolutely no strength.

I'm absolutely amazed by the fact that a person refuse to by quality parts for an almost new NSX when the value exceed $65 plus K. This is NOT some beat up NSX with a salvage title you just want to put together by using the cheapest parts you can find and call it a day - After you struggled to move from a 1990 Honda Civic.

I guess some time the vision-is-no-so swift:biggrin::wink:

Yep, lots of civic venders have their parts made in China with a reputation of making parts out of crappy CF and neve-a-plug-and-play fitment.

What's the point of spending money on parts that doesn't fit? Some people just like to go out of their way to make the car look bad.

Sorry, I ment the OEM 2002 aluminium hood.

Yea, I only have cheap mods on my car...damn those cheap 13k brakes and 8k wheels. You see those on Hyundai's all the time.

I love to show off the underside of my hood...people think I'm so cool and rich because not only the top side is CF but the side no one see's is CF. LOL whatever.

I guess some time the vision-is-no-so swift:biggrin::wink

F you too :wink

Thank you for proving me point; 13k brake system and 8k wheels but can't see the value of a nice hood. Since you don't care if people see the underside of your hood, do you care if people see the upper side of you hood?

I guess the bling bling effect is only good if the parts are made of metal...lol

LMAO

$13k for a BBK system is rediculous, absolutely rediculous!!!

The rape me price of OEM NA2 type R brake system is "only" $3 grand when it out performs almost every after market BBK system:biggrin:

Just give a beautiful girls two black eyes and cover her up with bling bling...lol... It works really swiftly with 20/20 vision:biggrin:

You bought the hood already. Just try to fiddle with it, hope it fits better.

No real complaint here with DF 02+ R hood. I went for FRP top and CF underside:redface: . FRP top- I want to paint the top side, and I know CF could create problem when painted. CF bottom other then the possible extra rigidity CF can provide, I just want one:smile:.
Of course other hoods crossed my mind at early on before my 02 conversion. But after having a first hand look at their engine cover and DFR rear wing and the quality of their work. Just made my mind up.
Good luck. You car looks very nice! Now fix that hood and make it look better

mess around with the hood to make it fit better, try puttin honda-bond on the mounting bracket where the hood bolts onto with the bolts a little loose, fiddle with the hood while its closed and leave it alone for a few hours when your satisfied, when it dries tighten the bolts back up.

mike,

how is this turning into a vendor thread.

the OP, topic was new hood fitment question? what to do

Some say try to get the body shop to address the fitment problem (hood too small) Others are recommending alternative hoods that fit better.

I honestly thought that was the comments and opinions the OP was looking for. Since the OP ask for opinions i gave mine, which my honest opinion was to start with a better fitting hood that is more in line with the quality of the rest of his car.
