New Smilies?

I'm gonna stick my neck out (and hope Forums Nazi doesn't cut it off) ... it would be REALLY nice to see updated smilies.

i don't necessarily mean new smilies (although that would be nice); just updated versions of our existing ones.

i have collected a few which look like old ones but look more polished.

(See smilie compare's below)

of course, lud probably has better things to do... but i think it would be well worthwhile. bring NSXprime into the 21st century.

I think all of the smileys look nice. The only reason I would recommend against the new smileys is due to the fact that I have seen several car sites where I almost had a seizure looking at all of the smileys.

I think smileys should be used to enrich text. On a lot of sites that support a large amount of smiley code, people don't even type a written response. They merely post up a few smileys.

I agree with you Edwardo about the warning of new smilies, hence my remark in my first post "I don't necessarily mean new smilies". I hate opening forum threads and discovering it's 300K+ of smilies, avatars and huge signature pix.

I think updated smilies would be nice; a minor change and would bring consistency to the existing smilies. Primarily I wanted to float the idea and see what other people think. Simply updating smilies would require minimal work for Lud too I imagine. (An important consideration)

It's been my general fuddy-duddy observation that there is usually an inverse relationship between the number of (or at least the use of) "specialty smilies" and the amount of useful information posted on most message forums.

I will do everything I can to prevent that from happening here. If people want to play around like that in Off Topic, that is one thing, but it just degrades the signal-to-noise ratio in the main forums.

I agree with your observation... i posted the speciality smilies mostly for a laugh. I guess i shouldnt have.

My reason for this post is to see if you (and other users) would like to see the existing smilies updated. I state this a couple of times in the first post.

Although some additional smilies would be nice, if it means lower-quality posts, then i say forget it. Quality information (and misinformation

) is what makes NSXprime so good.
