NEW S4 WILL BE A TUNERS DREAM
Supercharged V-6 to pump out 333hp

Audi has just released info on the European version of the next Audi S4 and it’s no surprise that it utilizes forced induction. Rather than Audi’s usual method of turbocharging cars, the new S4 is supercharged and makes 333hp at and pumps out 324 ft-lbs of torque from 2500 to 4850 rpm. Audi claims a 0-100 km run of 5.1 seconds, so the run to 60 mph could be five seconds flat or even in the four second range!

Other highlights include the optional S Tronic seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

The new S4 will also include “Audi Drive Select” which will allow drivers to choose from “comfort” “dynamic” or “auto” modes. Depending on the mode the ECU will change the throttle response, the S-Tronic shift points and the speed-dependent servotronic steering. And if the vehicle is equipped with the MMI operating system, the driver can customize these settings in a fourth mode. This system also works in conjunction with the optional dynamic shock absorbers, dynamic steering and the active sport differential, which can adjust power from the left and right rear wheels in just 100 milliseconds so almost 100 percent of the power can be sent to one wheel.

Got to like the Audi stuff. It's just sooo much fun.

I like Audis a lot, but the new A4 just seems so boring to me, like little changed besides making it longer and putting LEDs in the headlights. Also not overwhelmingly excited about a 333hp S/C V6 when a 335i has an underrated 300hp TT I6 for $8k cheaper.

the german hp war has been forfeited to the ballers who can afford brand new amg mercedes.

surley the new s4 isnt meant to compete with the new m3 and even more powerful c63????

The S4 is not meant to compete with the M3.

The RS4 is.
:rolleyes:

I wouldn't even consider an M3 since it would be useless when I try to drive it up to my local ski hill or Whistler. The new S4 is pretty bland looking tho. I hope that the RS4 when it comes out, it makes a little but more of a statement.

They have an RS6 as well...that's the M5 class.

The last RS6 to make it to america was in 2003.

The Current RS4 is dated...but still a fantastic car...a tad nose heavy, but the newer B8 chassis addresses this. The B8 RS4 will probably come out in 2010 or 2011.

Last weekend I had a charity drive for patients in my area. Besides some very nice really old cars there were also a few Porsches, a Ferrari, my NSX of course and a three month old Audi RS4.
The whole event was mainly back roads, narrow road, the typical Dutch dikes, so the driving was really easy.

At the end, some of the faster guys were itching to stretch their legs and when we had to drive up the highway at about 25 mph a few of them let their foot slip accidentally.
I just happened to be in front of the RS4 and a 911 and we took it up to about 120 mph. Both the RS4 and 911 were not able to real me in which actually surprised me a little.
Must be all that Audi weight... :smile:

Interesting. I have an RS6 and I know I can reel in pretty much any car out there given a nice stretch of road. Winding road however and the heavier weight of the AWD Audi starts to slow in the corners for sure.

Rs6 = Twin turbo V8 with 450 HP

Rs4 = NA V8 with 420 HP.
S4 = NA with 340 HP

The RS6 is an amazing car...I don't think it's very comparable to the RS4. Those twin turbos will pretty much take care of any weight advantage, especially when you're getting up over 100mph. The RS4 suffers from the same sort of things that my S4 suffers from....weight, an engine that gets heat soaked fast and IMO an overrated engine! The RS4 is still a great car, but it can't hang with the new M3, but then again, it's been out for quite a while.

(The S4 and RS4 engines are not the same, they're both 4.2's, but that's about it. However I've never been impressed with either when it comes to dyno graphs. The Rs6 engine however seems to be legit...fastastic car!)

I haven't had the opportunity to drive the RS4. It is quite a bit lighter than my RS6 and revs more than 1500rpm higher. It is NA though so in my part of the world I get that bit of advantage running FI. The RS6 was only available in 2003 for the US and 2004 for Canada. Less than 1000 total in North America. They have just released the new Audi Rs6 on the new platform with an entirely new engine (V10). It goes like stink. Check out the attached video carefully...The acceleration 0-200km/h is between 13.0-13.5 seconds and this with full fuel tank and one extra person...

The RS6 is a Killer. Only super pimped out S4's will compete and beat.

333HP is a snoozer. Next please.

I am looking forward to the RS5. That might be my next car.

I agree, if you have (the old model) RS6, you would have no trouble with me on any length of straight road. It's the corners that are more difficult for the RS6 but on the highway it is excellent.

The new RS4 has the same trouble the E92 M3 has in my opinion. That is, peak power only at a very high rpm and just before the rev-limiter kicks in. Meaning that if you don't utilize the full rpm range of the engine, you will never squeeze those 420 HP out of the engine.

Talked to the owner afterwards, he was commenting how fast he thought my car was. He was a bit surprised himself too I think. But perhaps he didn't rev his engine to the limiter and I didn't ask him.
