So what would happen if I took off my muffler for a race event and left the cats and everything else on? I would be doing this just to save some weight on the track. Would this negatively effect my performance of my car?

I think you might get really hot gas going places it wasn't designed to go... You could damage paint, bodywork, suspension....

loud, goofy sounding, weight savings will produce no significant performance benefit .

You're not going to damage anything but you are going to throw a cel because of the 02 sensors and make the car obnoxiously loud.

The O2 sensors aren't apart of the muffler section, so it should be fine for no CEL, however I agree Bngl3rt in that exhaust gases expelled out underneath the car (straight out from the cats) could be dangerous.

It'll also be really really loud and you'll probably loose some low end torque.

I personally wouldn't recommend it.

I laughed when i saw that

would be loud and you would look like something was wrong with your car.

Yeah I miss read that, I thought he was also removing the cats. Nsxohio, I don't think it will really be worth a whole lot. Especially if your car is an NA1.
