Looking for some input on unsual things that prime members have enjoyed while in HI. Also, anybody with some ideas on best value for Helicopter or Submarine tours?

Take the state house tour where maybe you can view the president's birth certificate?

lol...

I was there last September and I didn't do any flying around. I rented a car and stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort. It was amazing!

The Polynesian culture center is a cool place to visit if you have a car, it's the safest theme part in the world...lol They conclude the day with a nice stage show!

BTW, if this is your first time at Waikiki Beach, don't dive into the water, walk in slowly and gently. In fact, if you have sandles, walk into the beach with it first so you know what's going on.

1. Don't go to Oʻahu -- it's San Jose with Palm trees.
2. DO go to Kaua'i or Hawai'i (The Big Island)
3. Heliocopter ride over Kaua'i's rain forest is one of the great "E" ticket rides in the world.
4. Lānaʻi is the most restful.

Anyone ever stay at the Hilton HI village? If so, any pointers? OR, would you stay elsewhere in the same general area?

Waikiki? I have not stayed at Hiltion HI Village, but based on staying nearby, I can tell you it looks amazing, and is the heart of the social area of Waikiki. I would love to stay there, but I'm a Marriott Platinum member so my allegiance belongs to Marriott.

You would be very pleased with the Hilton HI Village, I believe.

And I think everyone should check out a new place before judgement. I didn't think I'd like Oahu (after staying in Maui), but it turns out I love Oahu (Waikiki, north shore, Diamond head, etc are amazing). I look forward to my week long trip in Waikiki.

Don't forget to say Hi to Dog the Bounty Hunter...:)

Yes, it's a nice place to stay but I'm not sure I'd say it's in the 'heart of the social area'. It's more of a self-contained experience that's kind of at the west end of the Waikiki area. If you like the upscale experience of the Hilton, I'd suggest you also look at the Hyatt which is on Kalakaua across from the main beach; close to shopping and restaurants; and generally more 'in the heart of Waikiki if not the social area'.

Yeah, if you stay in the down town area, everything is walking distance.

Just go, doesn't matter where you stay, you'll have a blast!!!

Has anyone ACTUALLY stayed at the Hilton HI Village? If so, your thoughts?

Yes, I already looked at online reviews. Was more interested in what prime
members thought. Back to my original post, anyone do a helicopter or submarine or any other unusual tour?

Did Oahu and the Big Island a couple of years ago.

While it was a fairly nice vacation in some ways, there were many disappointments. I think that Oahu is kind of played out after so many decades of tourism. Full of mobs of tourists, multi-lane highways with plenty of traffic, chain hotels, chain restaurants. Lots of crime (big methamphetamine problem). One state park that we wanted to hike in was closed because of multiple robberies on the trails.
Big Island was different and mostly better. Still, I came away with the feeling that it wasn't really worth the long flight(s) to get there.

My daughter and husband did one of the helicopters tours (Blue Helicopter one I IIRC) and really enjoyed it. There was an option to pay a little extra to sit up front and they thought it was well worth it. They also did the parasailing thing and really enjoyed it.

Same daughter and her brother did the submarine trip that leaves from the Hilton area. Pretty claustrophobic and my son was somewhat seasick so didn't care for it that much and thought it was a lilttle pricey for what you got. Pictures they took from within the sub were not that clear .. certainly not like what you get if you go snorkeling.

Same daughter went on a snorkeling trip off=shore out by Ko'Olina and the pictures were awesome .. but she's a strong swimmer and was allowed some leeway to dive down a bit. They also took them to somewhere where they saw dolphins.

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaii Village back in 2008. It was a nice hotel with good hotel grounds and had good rooms. Most Hiltons I've stayed at have a nice lobby and the rooms are complete crap but this hotel was nice all around. Had a nice ocean view and one side looks over a 'harbor'. Get a higher floor to get away from the noise and a better view. THere's also a submarine ride place right there at the hotel dock. (didn't personally do that)

Personally I would not stay in Waikiki again as we did not like how busy it was in Waikiki but if that's what you are looking for it was certainly in the middle of everything.

I wouldn't pay for a helicopter ride over Oahu. It wouldn't even compare to the helicopter rides of Kauai or the volcanoes of the Big Island. Having been to the other islands (even Molokai) I think people miss out on Hawaii if they only go to Oahu.
