Why don't automotive journalists ever mention the fact that the Porsche 911 made its debut in 1963. The current incarnation, the type 997, is just as ugly as the first one. I suppose there's no accounting for bad taste.

Read it last night. Nice to see something written that we already knew. The fact that the car is still in production is why I elected to purchase mine. Being able to find parts is really important with such a low volume car.

And I guess that beauty is a matter of personal taste. When viewing my cars side by side I pick the 911 for styling but the NSX is more fun to drive. Now, if we compare it to a new 997 I think I'll pick the 997 but then I guess I would end up passing myself every ten minutes or so.

I like where the author states "young people still dig it" I guess thats why I bought one

i can't believe this "old rocker" reviewer forgot to mention it has a large boot - enough to store his monthly supply of weed and crack. that alone should make it "the bomb" amongst rock stars. :D

When they say the first tuneup is at 105,000 miles, does that mean that current production NSXs don't even need valve adjustment before then?
Not necessarily. The term "tuneup" isn't always used consistently, but I believe it most often refers to the interval when the spark plugs are replaced.

You guys are too funny!
Ojas thanks for posting that article, I enjoyed it very much.
Don't see/read many reviews on NSX in mainstream auto rags
these days, and as a new '04 owner (as Bridgewater pointed out)
I now feel younger.

the NSX is a 'sleeper' super car

I think the only car it can be compaired to is the 1967 toyota 2000GT, except that the NSX has been in production for 14 years

I thought I was the only one who felt this way.
A great driving/performing, ugly (inside and out), car that makes me think of a vacuum cleaner or a 60's VW Beetle when I hear one running.

Great article! It is amazing what people think of the NSX after they spend some time with it. Yes it is not the fastest car in the world, but it is still plenty of fun.

Refreshing to see a car journalist willing to spend the time to live with the car before jumping on the bandwagon complaining about the age of the car, the lack of a bigger engine. Although he did stay the above facts, he thinks that this car still rocks!

Most people that criticize the NSX have never been in one.

Great read! Thanks Ojas!

"Besides 175 mph is fast enough for me" I agree, when and how often can you get up to 175 in any city????

Great article. Thanks Ojas

great find. thanks

This was one of my main reasons for purchasing my 1991.
For some reason I'm paranoid of not being able to find a part for my "classic car." Being that they are almost identical, it will be a long time until parts are scarce.

Jamie Kitman is a pretty cool writer. He's a big fan of Honda engines and the F1 technology associated with them. In an issue of Outside a year or so ago, he wrote an article about the 5 most important engines ever invented and he listed the Honda VTEC engine as one of them.

Ojas,

Hey, great find. It was a pleasure to read.
The family and I've moved to NC, but we sure miss the TX fun drives.

Thank you for the great contribution (as always) and see you around where the road twists and tarmac is fresh.

What a drag it is getting old

In the new Automobile mag Jamie Kitman had some very good things to say about the NSX and its fans. In a one page article, he compares the ageing NSX to the Stones. As the article goes on he begins to mention that most, himself included, basically forgot that the NSX is still available as a new model and that Acura has done little to change it or market it. Not so good for the NSX so far. He then changes direction calling it a "first-rank supercar" that is a "freak show in its own right". He comments that it is "wonderfully fast, fun, and practical. As he gets to his favorite parts about the X he comments on " the incredibly sweet 3.2L VTEC six that revs to 8000rpm" and feels that a couple more cylinders needent be better. I don't know if I agree on that part, but he does note that the there is a show off contest on high priced cars similar to how prime members comment on the horsepower wars in the US. One of my favorite lines is when he quotes a 16yo saying "I know it's old, but it's my favorite" (whipe tear). He sums it up well by saying "Time waits for no one, but the NSX rocks hard still, in a uniquely satisfying way"

Re: What a drag it is getting old

My bad, I just realized this was posted last week. I have not been on prime much over the weekend.
