NSX-R Chassis Bars + Comptech Adjustable Sways (for STREET USE)

Does anyone have this combo (or similar set of adjustable sway bars)? What settings do you have your sways set at? I've been reading various threads on issues with understeer/oversteer, but most of these threads are directed to the track. What do you recommend for the best balance? Planning on installing my sways next week. I also have Tein Flex coils. thanks,
 
I have Flex + chassis bars + dali race sways (full soft rear, middle hole front) -> well equilibrated ride. I run slicks.

I think the comptech are more comparable to the street/track sways which are a better option for less grippy street tires.
 
Im using the dali street/track 0.875" bars and I love them... I had them both front and rear on the stiffest setting but it broke my end links in the front.. So titanium dave made me a new set of end links for the fronts, which work great but they don't reach the stiffest setting... so I'm using the middle holes for now... I kind of wish I went with the full track sways 1" thick......

I had to trim some of the tray with a dremel tool that holds the spare tire to keep it from rubbing.... but it wasn't too tough! :)

he's probably running the same as me 215/35/18 on 18x7.5 rims and 275/30/19 on 19x9.5"... If I remember my tire sizes correctly :) Am I right Synth? :biggrin:

And BTW, I would rather have a little bit of under-steer which is very easily correctable than over steer is in the NSX since the NSX has snap-oversteer which can be tough to correct if you don't know how to do it. :)

I have the 3 hole comptechs and chassis braces on my 96.The fronts are on the stiffest or first hole ,the rears are on the middle hole.Neutral(benign) handling with the nsx-r susp.
 
When I took my car to Universal Studio for the movie shoot last year, I had that combo on my car courtesy if Mr OCTechGeek. I have Type R front Sway and Chassis bars, the car over steers pertty bad. I assume you can make it less stiff than the NSX-R sways to ease the problem I had.

You were getting over steer because the NSX-R sway bar was in the front and the OEM one was in the back... making the rear too loose...

Thats why I like to have both the front and the rear the same which makes the car really stable and very predictable in the corners... (more understeer than oversteer)

You used the R front sway bar on the rear?

I have the Type S rear sway bar.

What? No I said you are probably getting over steer because the NSX-R bar is in FRONT and OEM is in REAR... I didn't say put the NSX-R bar on the rear....... :confused:

IMO, its better to have a little understeer which is easy to correct, than have oversteer on this car especially because the NSX has snap oversteer which can be very unpredictable.
 
^ So you think middle/middle is the best setup for street use? :cool:

I personally think front and rear should be set to full stiff.... :biggrin: Give it a try and see what you think... its easy to move them around if you dont like it... Just take it easy every time you make a change. :)
 
The spring rates on the suspension do make a difference as well. The OP has a Tein Flex and from what I could find out the rates are 10kg/mm F and 12kg/mm R.

I used to have Tein RA's with a 10/12 setup with the Dali/Street Race swaybars set to full stiff on the front and the full stiff on the rear. The car felt quite unsettled in the rear.

Dialing back the rear swaybar to the softest helped a bit but the rear end would still get unsettled when transitioning between braking and gas. (left foot braking or trail braking into a turn at the track) due to the high spring rate of the rear suspension.

After changing the Tein setup to a 10/10 the car behaved better but I ended up killing one shock.

Eventually ended up with the NA2 NSX-R setup with it's 10/8 spring rates the car was planted in the rear. Full stiff up front and middle hole in the rear.

IMHO: A good place to start on the sways would be middle hole in the front and last hole (softest) in the rear bars in a 10/12 setup. I would definitely *NOT* start with full stiff front and rear.

Note that all of my experiences were with a 17/18 wheel setup with 215/40/17 and 275/35/18 tires. Not sure how that will translate to a 18/19 setup.

BTW: The car did have the NSX-R chassis bars..

Ah!!!

Regardless, with the set up I have and OEM size tires, the car drives fine. It just didn't do too well with the larger wheels/tires combo.

The good thing is, Front NSX-R sway bar is not a pocket burner, if it doesn't drive well, you can always go back.
