Water gets into the engine bay through the vent garnish behind the rear window. Drips right onto your rear valve cover and spark plug/coil cover. That's one reason rear coils fail so often. Not a problem as long as your coil gaskets are in perfect condition.
Not sure about steam-cleaning. I don't see why it would be different than any other modern engine, though. Just watch out for the underside of the oem engine cover if it's still installed. Not sure what steam would do to that insulation.
