Is there any advantages to the ap1 vs ap2 other than looks? Trying to decide which one to get...

Hey guys, sorry for my delay in answering your posts, I've been in Chicago for the last week attending a conference with very limited time for anything else! Conference is over now and I expect to be able to get back to work with the R&D in a few days. My take on the AP1 versus AP2 discussion: The differences are mainly cosmetic. The AP1 is more F1 inspired, but the AP2 is more balanced in regards to the space allotted for all gauges. Here's a short list with the technical differences:

AP2:
  • has a higher resolution in the fuel and temp gauges than AP1
  • has the 8000 rpm redline if it is USDM by default
  • more difficult to come by
  • usually a little more expensive that AP1
  • requires having the unit sent to me for modification
  • weighs less than AP1
AP1:
  • easier to find
  • cheaper
  • a pseudo-solution to the redline with AP1 can be had with a Qube LED upgrade kit where Qube can color the rpm's above 8000 rpm red
  • doesn't require you to send it to me for modification
  • slightly heavier than AP2
Will release 1995-1999 for pre-ordering with discount soon! Some paperwork remains that I will take care of as soon as I get home to Sweden.

The 2000-2005 kits are being developed, there's some more work left as these years are a little differently configured than the pre-2000 models.

I've restocked some AP1 kits for 91'-94' year NSX's after being sold out for a while. And the paperwork for the 95'-99' year compatible kits is done and I'm awaiting confirmation from my suppliers, so almost time for a pre-release!

Meanwhile, enjoy this video from Hoovies garage that provides a review of my product, and some more! Review starts at about 2:50.

what screen is above the AC vents displaying RPM, Oil temp? Can you please share some details?

A video and review by a fellow NSX owner ShecSpeed of the S2000 cluster conversion in his 1995 NSX using my kit! Thanks ShecSpeed for making this. ShecSpeed was extremely helpful in beta testing my kits for 1995-1996 year cars with targa roofs, without his help it would have been much more difficult to get this to work properly, I'm truly grateful for all the effort he put into this.

A few keynotes from ShecSpeed:

"A straight forward cluster swap, Johan made it super easy"

"I've talked to several other owners who've done the swap on their cars and again, the installation was a breeze, they all love it, they like how it updated the interior while still keeping that Honda feel"

"I can say confidently, this is probably the best S2000 cluster swap kit available on the market"

"It's one of my favorite mods on this car so far"

Great news! I just got word from my suppliers that the first batch of 1995-1999 year NSX compatible kits are completed. It will be a week or two before I can stock them, and those who pre-ordered have priority but I should be able to offer these to all very soon!

PS: 2000-2005 are in development, designing new circuit boards and writing new software to make this work for these years.

Is this the cluster that I sent to you earlier from Malaysia?

- New feature! -

From now on all kits are completely Plug & Play. Now t
he red permanent power supply wire, that was previously just a wire that had to be spliced into a 12V permanent source, is a connector that plugs in between the NSX clock assembly and its wire harness.

The Qube LED upgrade requires it's own power supply and ground, these wires are now also plug and play via the same connector!

No more need to cut and splice wires in the NSX wire harness at all

An update on what's going on in my electronics lab:

1991-1994 kits are in stock, ready to ship!

1995-1999 kits are soon to be released, I'm waiting on the customers who placed pre-orders to confirm all is working well, they just received their kits.

2000-2005 kits are almost working 100 %, except the engine temp gauge which we are working on. We are confident we have the solution, just doing final touch ups before going into beta testing.

Check in for updates!

Head over to https://www.sjoebergdesign.com if you'd like to get one.

PS: Kits for AP1 clusters are available for special order, contact me if you are interested.

Any updates on 00-05 years?
Also can you provide the weight of the OEM NSX gauge, Ap1, & Ap2 clusters, just want to see what the difference is.

Hi Timeless1, I'm beta-testing a kit for 00-05 years at the moment having just done some edits to get everything to work properly. We had a little bit of work getting the engine temp gauge to work properly but I think we now have the solution. It's going into testing in about two weeks and if all is working I should be able to bring these kits to market.

Keep a watch on this thread, it'll be announced here when ready.

As for weights, I did measure this once but lost the numbers. The AP2 cluster however is the lightest, weighing in at about 1.5 lbs (680 gram).
