I am in the process of putting together a list of events for this year.  So far the ideas and thoughts are few and far between, but I am hoping that people will respond back with some more suggestions.   So, if you have more ideas, and especially if you are willing to sign up to help organize an event, let me know.

We have some limited funds to help pay for meals, refreshments, etc.

Apex 3rd Annual BBQ sometime in June?

Who's up for a track day?? Golden Gate BMW club has a 2 day at Thunderhill Aug. 25-26. Not very often to get 2 days back to back on the weekend in the middle of the season!

http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/index.php?module=calendar&calendar[view]=list&MMN_position=5:5

They did not fill the school at Infineon 2 weeks ago, I think we could talk them into securing a number of spots for the event if folks are interested in a day at T-hill. I really like the way this club runs their HPDE, very professional and lots of instructors so no one drives alone and instructors are required to have their passenger seats always filled. One of the best run programs I have had the pleasure to instruct with.

What do people think about this???

Dave, many of us have graduated from the BMW GGC school of HPDE and frankly their very strict disciplinary approach has helped us understand the fundamentals. And they "really" use their instructors - two students per instructor.

We are planning an NSX track day targeted for novices at Thunderhill with either TrackMasters or T.E.A.M. - both organizations offer an excellent program.

For me driving to Cali. from Idaho is a haul.I would be up for something in the Vegas area.Thats only 9-hrs.
Huh? According to Mapquest,

Boise ID ==> Willows CA (Thunderhill) 600 miles
Boise ID ==> Pahrump NV (Spring Mountain) 819 miles

Dave, I'm going

Hrant, I don't know about the "two students per instructor" thing or how this would affect the drivers (I'm not an Instructor) but I had a GREAT time at Infineion for 2 days.

The BMW club has a cool approach to teaching as before each session you get a 15-20 minute open classroom that's used to answer any questions and set goals for each driver in A,B,C,D groups.

We had 4 20+ minute sessions each day. As I'm a beginner this was a ton of sweat time in the seat and the Instructors were cool about working with each driver at the pace THEY were comfortable with.

I also enjoyed that in the first class room we were told that each Instructor had to fill the passenger seat and that they could drive in the A and B classes. This is were I learned what the cars were capable of. I got to ride in GT3 Porches, M3s, 350z, Lotus.....It was so cool to see how every car handled differently and based on each setup had a different line on the same track.

Best part about all the free rides you didn't evan have to ask. If you go around the Hot PIT area (bring your helmet) the Instructors would ask YOU if you wanted a ride.

The 2 day set was cool as the first day you just focused on the line for your car and felt the butterflies go away, speed increase just with all the track time.

I was amazed that my STOCK '91 with good brake fluid and pads would keep up with some of the more expensive, setup race cars. I had 2 different Instructors drive my car and wow I have soo much to learn but how cool is that to have an Instructor show you how capable your car can be if you drive it right.

By the second day I was  the different Instructors with my throttle control............but that was the first day too.

I think it's a little safer too as after each day you had another Instructor and that Instructor would look up your log from the first day (or as many days you logged with the club). I was told by my second day Instructor how well I did the first day and they match each driver with Instructor per your skill level.

I had a great time, they put on a good dinner after the first day and the club Director has sent out e-mail and letters to all attendees on anything they can make better.

Only complaint I had was WTF: I'm in the Bay area and I'm the only running NSX  GET YOUR DAMN CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE and use it! It was a beautiful mid 60s sunny weekend.

Later, Jeff

Hrant . . . I could not find another Friday that was not already taken at Thunderhill. We have secured the following Fridays for the remainder of the year at Thunderhill: August 17th, September 14th, and November 16th. Each of these days is $225 per driver, and includes instruction (one-on-one), classroom time, a supply of Gatorade and bottled water, morning coffee service, healthy snacks, and catered lunches. We have three run groups. The first and last session lasts for 20 minutes, the four sessions in-between run for 25 minutes (two hours on track).

If you all don't like those dates, I highly recommend with no reservations whatsoever Track Masters Racing. I have worked with Doug for years and find his group to be top notch and worth every penny.

BTW, I have instructed for the BMWCCA a couple of times. None of my statements above should be taken as if I would not recommend them. I think they are a great group as well. The only complaint I've heard is that they are a little strict, and won't allow a convertible NO MATTER WHAT kind of safety equipment is installed. I can understand their concern, I suppose. There is certainly nothing wrong with being safe instead of sorry. :)

If you all choose to try out a day with T.E.A.M. Racing, bear in mind that it's a first-come, first-served type of deal. We can reserve a given number of slots on the grid for a specified time, however. You just need to let me know how many. :)

Bonni, thank you for the post. And as I noted on the Sacto list, we may still be able to work something out in the Fall.

The May 11th with TrackMasters at Thunderhill seems to be a perfect day since it is before the weather starts getting warm. And then there is the Reno-Fernley weekend option but it is hard to pull Bay folks for that.

We will try to push the May 11th for now and see where we get. But for all those interested, please be advised due to liability issues recently experienced by the PCA in holding joint events with other clubs or track organizers of high performance driving schools/events, the track event WILL NOT be an NSXCA or NSXCA - Sacramento Chapter sponsored event. We will help market it but the event will be run strictly by TrackMasters.

Sounds great, Hrant! I will do whatever I can to get folks to the May 11th date with Track Masters. I typically instruct for them, and this event happens to be the Friday before a NASA race (so I will definitely be there). I will gladly request an NSX student if you'd like -- I have five years of experience instructing in all kinds of cars. Even if you all don't come out to a T.E.A.M. event, I will be there to support you all in any way I can. :D

Bonni, no issues in here, and your credentials have been well established so no need to explain ...... just make sure you can point by through the saftey mesh when Steve is behind you

Lol, Hrant. Does it matter which finger I use to point Steve by with? Hehehehehe! Love ya, Steve-O.

Wow such Love.!! I am so lucky to have such great buds to give the Love:cool:
See you on the 5/11/2007 date with my car (I hope). Also let me know if you need help with anything.

Hmmm... the Driving Ambition event is nearing but other than that and the Motoring J Style show, there are a lot of unspecified dates for the events until the Concourso Italiano. I've talked to Steve (makena88) and he said that his shop is swamped with a lot of work and he's not sure when he might be able to host the BBQ, though he really wants to try to do so.

Has anyone started planning the Marin, Sonoma and/or south of San Jose drives? Danny (BluryNSX) and I have been kicking around the idea of putting together a drive but it's only been talk so far... just "a drive to the coast". We both thought of Woodside when we talked about it, though. I don't want to list that drive on this thread, however, because I don't know that we would have the organization that the events here tend to have.

So what's coming up next, guys?

J

Yeah, I've seen that thread... but I'll be out of town on that day. Thanks for the heads-up, though! It sounds like I'll miss out on a great drive

hello Tom And All... This Is My First Post. My Name Is Ken Champlin And I Have A Profile On Facebook If Anyone Would Like To See. On With My Idea....i Live Near Bellingham Washiongton. Id Like To Propose A Drive Here In Washington. A Good Possible Meeting Place Could Be Seattle, But Just Know That Traffic Here (just Like Cali) Is Usually Something You Dont Want Your Nsx In! I Think A Drive Starting From The Mount Baker Area Or Sedro-woolley And Then All The Way Across The Northern Cascades To Eastern Wa. Using Hwy 20 Would Be Perfect. Its Summer, We Wont Need Snow Tires, Its A Semi-remote Hwy And Its Long. I Am Retired So Time Is Not An Issue For Me. We Should Meet On A Friday Night (wash Night) And Leave Early Saturday Morning After Breakfast Somewhere. The Route Is Easy, Anyone Can See Hwy 20 On Google Maps. Please Let Me Know What You All Think. Id Like Anyone To Come No Matter What State Your From. This Would Be A Senic Getaway Far From The Dusty Roads Of Cali Or Nevada. Please Reply Because I Think I Should Leave The "when" To The Masses To Agree On. -ken/sarge
